Resistance: Burning Skies gets a release date

In a Q&A session posted over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony confirmed that Vita first-person shooter Resistance: Burning Skies is set to release on May 29.

In Resistance: Burning Skies, players will take on the role of Tom Riley, a New York fireman who finds himself having to arm up to fight off the chimeran invasion.

The Resistance franchise has thus far been in the hands of Insomniac Games–aside from Resistance: Retribution, which was handled by SCE Bend Studio–but the studio is passing the torch to Nihilistic Software with Resistance: Burning Skies.

Last month, Insomniac Games confirmed earlier statements that its involvement with the Resistance franchise ended with Resistance 3. That doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise will come to an end after the release of Resistance: Burning Skies, however.

“We believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion, in terms of the story we wanted to tell,” Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price explained. “However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing. It’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic. And with Sony’s shepherding we know it will continue to live on and expand.”
