‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Stefan And Damon’s Mother Is ‘The Most Intense Vampire’ In Mystic Falls

Caroline has flipped the humanity switch, Damon has learned that his mother is trapped in a prison world, and things are just going to keep getting more and more complicated on The Vampire Diaries as the season continues. What’s going to happen when the Salvatore brothers reunite with their mother? Is trying to get her out of the prison world the right move or a mistake?

Bonnie finally made her way home a couple of episodes ago, but first, she made a pit stop in a 1903 prison world, where, in her final moments, she captured a woman on the old video camera from the 1994 prison world. Upon reuniting with Damon and showing him the video, he told her that the woman is his mother, Lily, who supposedly died of consumption. Oh, if only that was true. Once Damon found her coffin empty, he had to rely on Kai for information about his mother, information that he only received after he brought Kai to Bonnie so he could apologize for what he did because of the pesky emotions he got from his brother during the merge.

The apology didn’t go as Kai had hoped, with Damon ending up on Bonnie’s bad side for putting her in the exact situation she didn’t want to be in, but Kai did spill the beans about Lily. It turns out that she was a ripper, and the Gemini coven put her in the prison world after she had killed 3000. But does that mean that they should leave her there?

Well, based on TV Guide’s interview with Annie Wersching, whether they should or should not rescue her doesn’t mean she won’t be, as the actress has teased what to expect from a Salvatore family reunion in The Vampire Diaries Season 6.

“She [is] the most intense vampire you can find in the world of Mystic Falls. Not only is she not the mother they remember, but it’s hard for her to even remember that mother she was. All three of them have quite a journey to go through in order to get back to a mother-son bonding scenario.”

TV Guide also revealed that “Lily has some very surprising connections to others in Mystic Falls that could make the rest of the season even bumpier,” so start trying to connect the dots.

But in order for a true Salvatore family reunion to happen, they need to do something about Stefan and Caroline. In the last Vampire Diaries episode, Stefan had to make the decision to flip his own humanity switch when Caroline threatened to kill Sarah if he didn’t. That means there’s now a humanity-free Caroline and a humanity-free Stefan on the loose, and as the promo for “A Bird in a Gilded Cage” shows, they may end up turning against one another. Well, at least, Stefan might turn against Caroline; despite some making out against a vending machine, there’s going to be plenty of violence in this next episode.

However, ETonline has posted a clip from “A Bird in a Gilded Cage,” and it looks like Damon is hoping that rescuing his mother from the prison world is what Stefan needs to flip his switch, so then he can flip Caroline’s switch and “everybody wins.”

But it also sounds like Damon has another plan up his sleeve as he tells Bonnie, “I might just have the answer to all your prayers.”

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
