Ellen: Kids Are On Ellen DeGeneres’ Wish List, But Does Portia de Rossi Agree? [Video]

Ellen DeGeneres is revealing what she really, really wants in her future, and kids rank high on that wish list. Her revelation came when Matt Lauer interviewed her for the Today Show and delved into her desire for human babies instead of the pets for which she’s famed, reported Entertainment Tonight.

At 57, Ellen emphasized that she’s aware that liking children isn’t the same as the long-term commitment required to raise them. And she admitted some trepidation about toddlers.

“I think I would. But that’s not enough to have kids. I love kids. But that’s such a big commitment. And it seems long-term. And I just don’t know if I can — it’s too risky.”

Fans of the Ellen DeGeneres Show know just how much the talk show host and stand-up comedienne adores kids. She’s even developed her own pint-sized series regulars, such as Sophia Grace and Rosie. In addition, Ellen has reached out to help children suffering from conditions such as cancer, providing both encouragement and gifts.

Ellen joked that some of those amazingly gifted kids that she’s showcased on her show just might present an impossible standard for her own future offspring.

“I’m gonna compare it to all these kids that I have on this show that are so smart and so funny. And I’m like, ‘You are nowhere near these kids I had on today.'”

Married for six years, Portia de Rossi has been candid about her views on children. In an interview with Out magazine, Portia denied any rumors that she and Ellen would have kids.

“We’ve settled into happily married life,” declared Portia. “We really support each other in whatever we’re doing and we’re incredibly happy.”

However, the actress did admit the pressure that she feels when it comes to babies. She stressed that in her view, children don’t fit into her image of the ideal life.

“There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think,’Am I going to have kids so I don’t miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart?’ I didn’t feel that my response was ‘yes’ to the latter. You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did. So it’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies — but we’re the best of friends and married life is blissful, it really is. I’ve never been happier than I am right now.”

Although Ellen may not fulfill her wish for children if Portia continues to dissent, DeGeneres is finding happiness in becoming a mentor to young stars such as Sophia Grace and Justin Bieber, as the Inquisitr reported.

Ellen turned Sophia from a YouTube sensation to a well-known singer with movies and books. And for Bieber, the repeated visits to Ellen’s show to emphasize his desire to change how the public perceives him have also given him guidance from the talk show host as well.
