‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ DVD Has 10 Minutes Of Sex That Would Have Made It NC-17

Sex is the whole premise of Fifty Shades of Grey, so it might be shocking for some to learn that the film only has about 20 total minutes of sex scenes. But fans of the kinky Fifty Shades romance need not look any further. The upcoming DVD release of Fifty Shades of Grey has promised 10 whole minutes of extra sex that was originally cut from the movie.

According to Hollywood Life, an extra long version of Fifty Shades will be released in the summer with the superfluous sex edited back into the run time. There’s no word yet if the unfiltered sex will be extensions of existing love scenes, or if they will be brand new sex scenes that never made it into the cut of the mainstream release.

According to Perez Hilton, the director of Fifty Shades of Grey, Sam Taylor Johson, has promised the bonus content in the director’s cut. Some may assume that the 10 minutes of sex were intentionally left out to encourage people to buy the special edition DVD of the movie, but Johnson revealed that the cuts were motivated by the film rating system.

“I would not be surprised if maybe there was some extras in the DVD release or the directors cut. When we were shooting it they were probably always aiming for an R rating. But there was lots of stuff left in the editing room which would push it over into NC-17.”

The director’s statement makes it unclear if the 10 minutes of extra sex would have pushed Fifty Shades into NC-17 territory due to the sheer volume of love scenes in the final cut, or if the removed sex scenes were especially explicit and had to be removed based on content to avoid losing the R rating.

One famous explicit sex scene from the novel of Fifty Shades of Grey has Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan in the film) removing the tampon of Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) before he has sex with her. This scene was cut from the movie adaptation entirely.

While some criticized Fifty Shades for watering down the sex scenes from the novel for the film adaptation, others criticize the story for inaccurately depicting sadomasochistic sex and essentially glorifying an unhealthy relationship.
