Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update: The Good And The Bad

Samsung Galaxy S4 users have received good and bad news about the Android 5.0 Lollipop update over the last few days. While there is news of a severe delay in getting the upgrade to the operating system, user manuals have been updated to include it. It certainly suggests that something will be on its way soon.

Galaxy S5 users have been the ones who mostly saw the upgrade over the last few months. According to Gotta Be Mobile, the update has reached a number of different regions, and the three out of five main mobile carriers now have the Lollipop operating system on the S5 phones. The Galaxy S4 is expected to come next, but there is a lack of progress compared to its heir.

Various regions are releasing details about when the Android 5.0 update will come to the Samsung phones. The S4 is on the list, along with the Galaxy Notes Edge, 3 and 4.

The good news is that the Samsung Galaxy S4 update is expected to come soon. The user manuals for the GT-I9505 have been updated with the new operating system. XDA-Developers Android users already have access to it, even though it is the stock version compared to Samsung’s official version. It is still a start. There is still something positive to take from the news.

The bad news is that it could still take some time. Samsung has reportedly put the release on hold due to a number of customer complaints. Android Headlines reports that these issues are in Norway, so it could be good news for other regions. There have been issues with software applications working with the new update, including random freezes occurring. There are also some issues with the alarm app crashing, so not working properly.

All of these bugs need to be worked out before the Samsung Galaxy S4 and other devices get the Lollipop update. The last thing the company wants to happen is a major news backlash in the same way that Apple suffered after the release of iOS 8 last year.

Samsung Norway has issued a statement about the problems face with Lollipop:

“We are aware of the issues some users are experiencing after installing the update Android 5.0 Lollipop and now has stopped the current version. We work full time with a new update that contains solutions to the problems that have been reported to us, including a new solution for silent mode. We hope to send out the update shortly, and will keep you updates on Facebook.”

However, there is no news as to when the upgraded operating system will come. The good news for Samsung Galaxy S4 users is that the operating system is going through more testing and will hopefully work as expected when it finally hits phones.
