Exton Elias: Robert Downey Jr. Picks Peculiar Name for New Son

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan have chosen a name for their new son… Exton Elias. The Downey’s welcomed little Exton into the world this morning at a hospital in Los Angeles.

A source close to the couple said:

 ”Everyone is healthy and they couldn’t be happier.”

Exton Elias, of course, will not be the only little kid with an unusual name in Hollywood. Jay-Z and Beyonce named their daughter Blue Ivy, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes named their child Suri, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have a daughter named Apple.

So out of all the crazy names that the Downey’s could have chosen for their son, why did they pick Exton?

Laura Wattenberg, who runs Babynamewizard.com, told OMG!

“Place names and surnames with an ‘x’ inside them have been soaring for boys. It’s like a little super-power boost inside an otherwise unassuming name. Jaxon, Braxton, and Paxton are the leaders of that pack, and many others, like Maxton and Lexington are rising. Exton is a little surprising, though, because it’s not especially nickname-friendly. Ex, with its suggestion of ex-wives and ex-boyfriends, isn’t likely.”

The gossip site speculates that Robert may have chosen the middle name, Elias, to honor Eli Manning who just won Super Bowl XLVI. Of course, it could also have religious tones.

The Daily Mail reports that Robert Downy Jr. already has one son from a previous marriage. His 18-year old son’s name is Indio.
