The Moment An Entire Neighborhood Secretly Learns Sign Language To Communicate With A Deaf Man [Video]

Sometimes all we need to do is take a step back from the bombardment of crime and violence to truly appreciate the fact that most humans are more about love and kindness than hate and vehemence. Samsung has put this thought into perspective with its ad campaign, titled “Hearing Hands,” whereby an entire neighborhood learned sign language so they could communicate with a deaf man.

Muharrem was unaware of the elaborate stunt taking place around him as he walked through his neighborhood with sister, Ozlem.

Around the Instanbul, Turkey, neighborhood, cameras had previously been set up to capture Muharrem’s reactions to the nonverbal exchanges, which begins with his utter surprise at a stranger signing him “good morning.”

To Muharrem’s bewilderment, however, it didn’t stop there. As the siblings ventured throughout this “ordinary” morning, individuals who crossed their path continued to communicate with Muharrem using sign language. And it wasn’t until the end when he finds out why and how that his reactions become priceless.

The drive behind the “Hearing Hands” ad campaign is Samsung’s recent opening of video call centers to assist customers who are hearing impaired. But regardless, the impact is a beautiful one.
