‘Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold’ Announced For Nintendo 3DS In North America This Summer

Atlus U.S.A. has announced that the second installment of the Etrian Odyssey Untold series will hit the Nintendo 3DS console in North America sometime this summer. Although an official launch date is not yet known, the game is titled Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight and it will be available to purchase at a suggested retail price of $49.99 USD.

The announcement trailer shows off the game’s anime-style cinematic scenes set to the game’s theme song, “Reaching For Our Future,” sung by Kanako It?.

In a recent press release, Atlus revealed Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold is 3DS remake of the original Etrian Odyssey 2 game that was released in 2008 on the Nintendo DS. In addition to the remake, it also includes an “untold” storyline.

“The next entry of the Etrian Odyssey Untold series is essentially two games in one — the first, a Nintendo 3DS update to Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard (released on Nintendo DS) with new dungeon layouts, new graphics, and system improvements from the recent Etrian Odyssey Untold. The second is the Untold portion — a brand new story mode with a fixed party, voiced dialogue, and animated cutscenes that follows the bittersweet tale of the Fafnir Knight, Princess Arianna, Flavio – another hero of the Midgard Library — and the two adventurers, Bertrand and Chloe. The five meet while exploring the Ginnungagap ruins, and then after misfortune unfolds, they venture back and forth between the Yggdrasil Labyrinth and Ginnungagap, slowly working their way to discovering the origins of the Fafnir Knight.”

With the New Nintendo 3DS XL selling successfully, the Untold remakes may find an audience with gamers who missed out on the originals. The publisher further notes that listening to customers of the original game was essential in the remake process and to improve the overall game experience for both fans and newcomers alike.

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold is the seventh entry in the Etrian franchise (eighth if you count Persona Q, and you know we do) and has a level of refinement that could only come from consumer feedback. Improved systems and mapping make Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold one of the most approachable Etrian titles to date.”

Another feature of the remake to ease players new to the franchise is the addition of a lowered difficulty Picnic mode. Veteran players seeking a challenge can choose to play the higher difficulty: Expert mode. New to all players in the remake is the Fafner class. Exclusively available when playing through the game in Story mode, the Fafner class is a knight class with a beast transformation that improves abilities and attributes.

Additional details about The Fafnir Knight, including pre-order bonuses and DLC have not yet been announced.
