The ‘Frozen Fever’ Snowgies Might Be The New Minions

Disney’s Frozen Fever will introduce some adorable new friends for lovable snowman Olaf, but their origin story is kind of gross. According to a recent report, these mini-snowmen will magically appear whenever Elsa sneezes. In other words, they’re frozen, living snot bubbles.

According to Yahoo! Movies, the new poster for Disney’s Frozen Fever short features the first good look at Elsa’s latest creations. The cute little critters are called “snowgies,” and they’re the result of Elsa suffering from a bad cold. Producer Peter Del Vecho calls them “mini Olafs,” but he hinted that they’re not quite as intelligent as Olaf. He describes the snowgies as “fun little snowballs” that “bring a lot of mischief and fun” to Frozen Fever.

The snowgies might remind you a bit of the minions from Despicable Me — they all look alike, and they probably have adorably squeaky little voices. If they are based on the minions, you can’t blame Disney for being a bit inspired by the Universal Pictures characters — as Time points out, the little yellow pills are so popular that they have their own full-length movie hitting theaters on July 10.

To be fair, the minions seem to be somewhat inspired by the little green aliens in the Toy Story movies and the rabbits from the Raving Rabbids video game. Apparently, there’s just something appealing about mischievous masses of look-alike characters with high-pitched voices.

Minions

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Frozen Fever is just seven minutes long, but Frozen fans will have to pay for a full-price movie ticket to see it. The animated short will hit theaters on March 13, and it will air before Disney’s live-action Cinderella movie.

Frozen Fever is set shortly after the events in Frozen, and it focuses on Queen Elsa’s attempt at planning Anna’s birthday party. Unfortunately, she catches a nasty cold, and more snowgies are born every time she sneezes. The naughty little snow-snot creatures will probably make sure that nothing goes as planned, but it looks like things turn out all right in the trailer below — Olaf, the snowgies, Sven, and Kristoff surprise Anna with a special birthday snow pile topped with her birthday cake. Elsa looks almost as surprised as her sister, but she doesn’t seem to be quite as impressed.

While chatting to Yahoo! Movies about Frozen Fever, director Chris Buck shared something interesting about Kristen Bell, the actress who voices Anna. According to Buck, Bell and husband Dax Shepard will have to expand their family again if Disney decides to do a Frozen sequel.

“Her voice actually changes when she’s pregnant. If we do another Frozen, she’s just going to have to have another baby. No pressure.”

Unfortunately for Frozen fans, Chris Buck and co-director Jennifer Lee recently told BuzzFeed that a full-length Frozen sequel isn’t currently in the works. However, the directors are “fairly certain” that they’ll eventually revisit Arendelle for a third time, and perhaps the snowgies will pop up again in Frozen 2.

Are you planning on taking your favorite little Anna and Elsa fans to a showing of Cinderella just so that they can see Frozen Fever?
