Tyler Baltierra Attempted Suicide At The Age Of 12

Tyler Baltierra, of MTV’s Teen Mom, attempted to take his own life when he was just 12 years old. In an interview with Radar Online on March 9, Tyler Baltierra detailed his suicide attempt.

“When I was 12, I attempted suicide. I tried to hang myself in the backyard of my house. Being so young, I was naïve on how the process actually worked. I thought if I jumped, it would snap my neck and I would die instantly. I didn’t think about the struggling and choking and while it was happening, I realized it wasn’t going to be quick. It gave me time to think.”

According to Tyler Baltierra, he was in a “dark place” after his troubled father, Butch, returned to prison. He had also been sexually assaulted, as the Inquisitr reported, just three years prior.

Following his suicide attempt, Tyler Baltierra sported a large rope burn under his neck that remained for two weeks, and seeing the marks prompted Baltierra’s mother to take him to a therapist.

“I got put on medication and took that for a couple of years. It was a dark time.”

Years later, Tyler Baltierra hopes his story will help others.

“Nowadays you see all the headlines. Kids are getting bullied, especially in the LGBT community. It’s a topic that needs to be talked about. Hopefully, people can learn from it.”

Tyler Baltierra is currently in a much better place, and recently welcomed his second child with fiancé Catelynn Lowell.

Baltierra and Lowell began dating in junior high, and have been together ever since.

After becoming pregnant as a teen, Lowell was featured, along with Tyler Baltierra, in MTV’s 16 & Pregnant. Months later, after choosing adoption for their first child, Carly, the couple went on to share their story on Teen Mom.

As they close in on the upcoming season’s premiere date, Tyler Baltierra and Lowell have a full plate. In addition to promoting their new book, Baltierra and Lowell are busy with their newborn, Novalee Reign, and planning their August 22 wedding.

As Radar Online previously reported, Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell opened up about their troubled childhoods in their new book, Conquering Chaos, which is on stands now.

Tyler Baltierra and Lowell will appear on Teen Mom OG, when the series premieres on March 23 at 10 p.m. on MTV. Also featured on the upcoming season of the series are Maci Bookout, Ryan Edwards, Amber Portwood, Gary Shirley, and Farrah Abraham.
