Suspect Blew Himself Up As Police Surrounded Him For Nemtsov’s Murder

One of the suspects who authorities believe was responsible for the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov blew himself up on Sunday as police closed in on him.

Five other suspects are due to be arraigned at Basmanny District Court in Moscow, Vladimir Markin, spokesman for Russia’s Investigative Committee, informed News Oxy.

As police surrounded the sixth suspect’s apartment in Grozny, a source told Russia Beyond The Headlines(RBTH) that the suspect threw one grenade at a police officer then blew himself up with another grenade.

The source explained, “The man surrounded by law enforcement in Grozny had been suspected of Nemtsov’s murder.”

The police officers on the scene, as well as local residents, did not sustain any injuries from the explosions.

While the identity of all five suspects who were brought into custody have yet to be revealed, Albert Barakhoev, secretary of the Security Council of Ingushetia, revealed to RBTH, “We have information of the detention of Zaur Dadayev as well as Anzor Gubashev and his brother.”

Then it was released that another suspect is Gubashev’s brother, Shagid. All five suspects are reportedly Chechen.

The two main suspects are Zaur Dadayev and Anzar Kubashev, both of whom are between the ages of 30 and 35. Dadayev actually admitted his involvement in the murder to Judge Natalia Mushnikova, as reported by the RBTH.

Barakhoev reports that Dadayev was a deputy commander within the local law enforcement, where he lead a battalion of Interior Ministry troops fighting against ISIS.

The other lead suspect, Kubashev, was a security guard for a private security company in Moscow.

There have been many suspicions from Nemtsov’s colleagues suggesting that Vladimir Putin’s government was somehow tied or responsible for the assassination. Part of their reason for believing this is because Nemtsov recently declared that he had evidence of Russian military involvement in Ukraine — evidence that he was ready to make public.

Dadayev’s mother, Ajmani Dadayev, revealed that the Kubashev brothers were, in fact, her nephews, as reported by News Oxy.

Since the suspect blew himself up on Sunday, officials have not released any further information in regards to who else they may be investigating, possibly to avoid incidents similar to the one they faced earlier today.

Mourners still visit the spot where Boris Nemtsov was gunned down on the street.
