Portia De Rossi and Ellen Degeneres’ Pilot Picked Up By ABC

Posted: February 3, 2012

portia de rossi

Portia De Rossi will be starring in a new pilot, “The Smart One,” for ABC. The show just got a pilot ordered from the network which will be produced by Portia’s partner, Ellen Degeneres.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Portia de Rossi will star as a  “brilliant and successful woman who begrudgingly goes to work for her less-brainy but more popular sister – a former beauty queen, weather girl and now big-city Mayor.”

The show will be written Donald Todd and produced by DeGeneres and Lauren Corrao.

If the show gets picked up De Rossi will be a very busy actress as it was announced last year that “Arrested Development” would be returning for one more season.

Portia has starred in two shows that have gained cult status after a short run. “Arrested Development” was cancelled after just three seasons and “Better Off Ted” was cancelled after two seasons.

Do you like the premise for “The Smart One?” Do you want to Portia De Rossi’s new show?

In other Portia / Ellen news, the celebrity couple recently purchased Brad Pitt’s mansion. Ellen also recently became the spokesperson for JC Penney. One Million Moms recently started a protest against JC Penney for choosing an openly gay woman as its spokesperson.

I wonder who will play the other female in the series?

  3. these moms should be glad they have such a good person as ellen, she is a very compassionate person for under-privileged people. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Good god, the "mothers" in this story need to get over it. I bet when their children grow up to be gay, their tune will change. Ellen is a woman who does so much for people and animals. She's a great person and the fact that she is married to a woman should't matter.

You are sick. If thats all you can see when you look at there smiles, you are a sex minded addict. Every man you look at does the same thing. Do you see that when you look at a mans smile? Your guy most likely doesnt pleasure you that way or you wouldnt be able to kiss him afterwards. If you think tuna, you had better wash yourself better YUCK! When people look at you they see a woodiy hanging out of your mouth. Sperm dripping off your chin Barf!

Better run! Washington just passed gay marrage. Californias next. Or it will be left in the dark ages. Sorry but love is love. And your simple narrow mind cant do a thing about it. Better pack Your bags to run off to stright island, where hate abounds and hetro devorces are of God.

Actually no they are not wives, they are civil partners. Why can't they just be people, instead they have to identify themselves by their sexual acts. I'm a person, not a hetrosexual. I would never lower who I am as a person by classifying myself by what I do in bed.

Never will be, no matter what they do. Marriage is between a man and a women…has been since the beginning of written history. Accept it. You can have the same rights under civil union but leave marriage alone, remember its the "gay lifestyle" not the gay race

How?! Are they making out in the commercials?! Does she mention how great it is to be a lesbian in them too? She promotes JCPenny and that's it. I don't see how that is "thrown in everyones faces"

  20. ken14jc She is her wife! WHo cares abou the beginning of written history, things change! In the beginning of written history there was slavery as well, should it still be since it was that way "at the beginning of written history?"

ken14jc –the relationship isn't thrown in anyone's face. They just live openly like you or anyone else. I can see that homophobic people like you want them to stay in the closet, but that's just selfish and silly. Why are you and people like you so threatened by the choices other people make? This atmosphere of hate is what's wrong with the world. Jesus, just live your life and get over it.

you cannot compare the injustices of slavery with the lifestyle choices of a gay couple! Slavery is the forced bondage of one person over another. Homosexuality is the conscience act of sex between two people. how dare you compare slavery to gay marriage!

I don't hate anyone…I feel sorry of rpeople like you because if someone docent agree with you their hateful…. well your hateful and hetrophobic.

  29. ken14jc It's not you're life to live so get over it! Concentrate on living you're own life…. No one is making you be gay…or shoving they're life style in your face…you're just over sensitive…I hate when people are so judge mental. Oh and Portia has been on many TV shows…so yes she can get work on her own.

I love Ellen and thinks she a wonderful person. And think people should educate themselves before they judge. And no being gay is not a lifestyle. And my Son was born gay and always says he hates to hear people call homosexuals a lifestyle. Why would anyone choose to be different. And homophobics hate you and some want and would murder you. And its a little better today than it was years ago. But still haters and dirty minded people. Who would enjoy living like that and being afraid. That common sense. My Son and his partner have been together 18 yrs. And his partner is a diabetic and has heart trouble and very sick. And they do not even sleep in the same room. And my Son takes care of him and really good person. And aLso took in a homelesss straight man and helped him get job car and on his feet. And the guy told me how grateful he was. And how nice both had treated him and his 2 kids. They have lots of straight friends that love them. My Son was my second child and I had 4 children. 3 boys and 1 girl. And he was the only gay one and the best person and more educated than all of them. He worked himself thru college with 2 jobs. And was popular in High School and President of his class. No one knew he was gay. He is very good looking and manly. And never came out until he went to college. And he and I went and talked and I understood than. He thought he had a mental illness and was from a small town. And that was before computers. So he went to the library and got a book and read up on homosexuality. He was in High School than. And was scared of his being different and said he knew from a young age. And he tried to go with girls and felt like a liar. But he wanted so bad to feel like he knew society wanted him to feel. But it is what it is. And he is who he is and tired of living a lie to please society. And he has a beautiful home and great job. And always was very intelligent. And he is 52 and happy. And feels good he never married and had children like some gay men do and h urt the woman and children by living a lie. And he said Mom try to get up someday and say your gay. Itold him that would be a lie. Than he said see how I feel. Icannot make myself straight like you and Dad. And you and Dad could make not make yourself gay.And I c ryed and really seen where he was coming from. And he does not care about marriage himself said whatever suits others. Said civil union is good enough for him. And after 18 yrs. just like everyone else. It is about loving and sharing your life with someone you like. Best friends. Sex is not the answer to everyones problems. And he knows God loves him because he loves others and believes. So please do not judge people untill you have walked in their shoes. And people are all born different. Negroes Asians Indians. And also Mentally challenged people. People that are mentally ill. We should accept people for who they are. Serial killers and molesters are sick and hurt others. That a hard one to accept. But gay people are usually loving and born with good hearts. Thanks

    Feb 4, 2012

Faith Roby BIGOT: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance. From Merriam Webster. Try using it. There is a little education for you, and here is some more: Belittling a group of people due to ignorance is not simply having a difference in opinion, it is being oppressive of another group. Looks like, in your case, the oppressed has become the oppressor. I highly suggest YOU grow up.

Erin O'Keefe Homosexuality is a choice. Its a physical sexual act. Look it up miss DePaul University. You engage in homosexual activity but its not who you are its what you do and who you do it with. People can do what they want with who they want …. but when people begin to tell me that I have a say its right or change my beliefs to fit their lifestyle or Im a bigot or hateful thats when I draw the line. I was in the gay lifestyle for a long time princess so I know what I'm talking about. Maybe you will get a little more wisdom the more you grow up. PS thanks Faith for the back up.

  41. Actually, by California law, she is her wife. They got married before the ban, and enforcing a law ex post facto would be unconstitutional and plain ridiculous. But then again, so is banning gay marriage, so I'm not surprised you'd support both. They are, however, legally married. Accept it.
It has also been medically proven that homosexuality is not a choice. People are born gay. Just like people are both straight, or while or black, etc. Which means that homophobia is EXACTLY like racism. You're trying to oppress people on the basis of an inborn quality.
But I don't expect you to get it. You're so bigoted you're denying both law and science, so clearly you're incapable of understanding simple truths. Oh well. Some people are born gay. Some people, like yourself, are born stupid.

  42. You know your an idot. We don't complain about straight people doing their thing. Dont't badmouth gay people because you don't understand. We are so here to stay, get used to it or keep your mouth closed.

  43. Why is it "throwing it in our faces" when Ellen just shows up in a pants suit and sells you a microwave? It's not like she's saying that microwave is where she disinfects her sex toys.

  44. ken14jc Why do you feel the need to insult gay people??? This is 2012, are you getting that . Life is too
short to waste on hating people of any kind. I don't care who you love or date. Why should you care who I love or date?

  45. Erin O'Keefe You are exactly right, he really dosen't know how to deal with anyone differnt from himself.
That is such a huge flaw these days. So many different people make up this big world we are part of.

  46. I'm Glad to see ABC picking this pilot up since they need a hit BIG TIME. Portia is a good actor and it sounds like it has the making of a hit all depends where they schedule it. As to the other comments, people grow up its 2012 not the 1950's.If you're going to hate it comes back at you in some shape or form.

  47. im conservative by nature;the whole gay marriage "debacle"doesnt concern me; as it doesnt affect me—-we came to this country 2 escape persecution……….peeps,('specially in my party)-have lost sight of such things…….isnt it inherent in all parties and classifications AND nationalities and races that we have a right 2 be happy???????wheres the humanity??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  48. as the world turns;so do peeps uncomfortable with happiness……….very well said,plainlyspoken…..

  49. ken14jc the only thing thrown in peeps faces is your 'tude….are you THAT unhappy as to espouse your uneducated views on people whom are trying to enjoy they're day reading such articles?grow the fuck up,TROLL!!!!!!!

  50. it is actually the same difference,FUCKFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. Erin O'Keefe ——dont get me wrong;id totally bang u;but mah peep would shrivel up in your rotten intolerant snizz……………….

  52. The pivitol difference between liberal attitudes and extreme conservative attitudes is that liberals believe the Billy Bob's of the world have the right to bask in their ignorance. Conversely, the Billy Bob's do not feel those with liberal attitudes have the right to express them. I think Ms. Degeneres and Ms. Rossi are shining examples of how people should behave, they use their celebrity status to promote worthy causes, and are clearly a couple who love each other. I would certainly rather my kids emulate people who display those characteristics, than some ignorant slob who would teach kids to hate or bully those who are different than the mainstream. My apologies to those who have the name Billy Bob and who do not bask in ignorance for abusing your name to illustrate a stereotype.

  53. I am by no means "gay"………that being said;EVERYONE is entitled to happiness..there is no such thing as "gay"……….my point being-peeps are attracted to their mates——-like animals—————-we ARE animals————–we just think we are'nt,as we are sentient…..

Erin O'Keefe Dude, so that would mean that you are a bigot right??? Especially since you are the one name calling…as I said before GROW UP! Only immature people will disagree with someone and then call them names .Maybe you fall in the category of ethnocentrism…. You never heard me belittle anyone, but I have seen many off your off-color posts. Being that it took you to find the definition and post it, it shows me how little you know that the term fits you! You did not see hate in ken14jc statement, he had an opinion and he stated it, you however called him an idiot…..who is the bigot now?

  56. Erin O'Keefe "gay" is "gay"…………..i had an ex fiancee whom paraded her sexuality around, and i was heart-broken……….im STILL affected by this…………..will NEVER get behind the lesbo thing………..YOU SEE THIS?A SELF-LOATHING REPUBLICAN????I h8 myself sometimes LOLOLOLOLOL…………..

  57. Good for them, at least they are happy, unlike most of the people that left a comment.

The simple fact of the matter is that the people that are ragging on gay marriage and that don't want gay men or woman promoting companies or having their "faces out there" openly are in for a rude awakening in the near future. There is no stopping gay marriage from becoming part of the social norm. Look at the strides that have been made just over the last 50 years, or 20, or even the last 10. To assume that this is something that is going to fade or fizzle out and be stopped is just a waste of time and energy. It's going to be the norm, the outcasts and bigots will become some of the the people we now know as the older generation who still think that there are problems with African Americans or Japanese. They will be looked down on as people stuck in the past, as the rest of the world moves forward. It's actually very sad for these non-progressive minded people. They can bark all they want, but lesser and lesser people will be listening as time goes on. Also, to the people that are associating "lifestyle" with being homosexual: You're ridiculous, because lifestyle implicates choice, which being gay is not. On top of that, if you're not gay, how could anyone POSSIBLY have one word to say otherwise. You simply will never know what you can't possibly fathom people, it's quite a simple concept.

  63. sema1854 I don't see the difference. They are both celebrity couples in fact Brad and Angelina are moreso thrown in our faces then they are! There isn't a tabloid out there that doesn't have something about them on a weekly basis. The only diffference is that they are hetero and Ellen and Portia aren't. Ignorance is NOT bliss!

  64. ken14jc I don't think she was comparing it but you are the one saying it was that way since the beginning of time and she is just saying slavery was around at the beginning of time as well and things change. Get it right before commenting please :)
