Oxygen Network has reportedly given NeNe Leakes, star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, her own series.
Although there has been no official announcement about the show quite yet, LALATE reported on March 6 that Leakes recently completed filming on the testimonials for her Oxygen Network series.
In recent years, Leakes has worked with the Oxygen Network a number of times. In 2012, she co-hosted the Glee Project Live Reunion.
During the broadcast, the Oxygen Network noted Leakes had “transitioned from reality programming into scripted programming with a breakthrough guest starring role on ‘Glee’ in the role of ‘Coach Roz Washington.’ This fall, Leakes will debut as ‘Rocky’ on Ryan Murphy’s new NBC comedy series, ‘The New Normal’ opposite Ellen Barkin and Justin Bartha.”
In other NeNe Leakes news, as the Inquisitr reported, rumors have been swirling regarding whether or not she will return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Season 8. Last month, a source told Radar Online that Leakes hated being on the show because of all the pointless drama her co-stars have caused.
“NeNe hates everything about RHOA and she’s sick of it all. She hates Kenya [Moore] and Claudia [Jordan] so much and she thinks they’re bringing the show down.”
The source also claimed the reported new Oxygen Network star wasn’t doing much to promote The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Bravo.
“NeNe doesn’t do anything other than the bare minimum of what is in her contract. She doesn’t want to blog that much or tweet about the show or the stupid fights that she’s been in.”
In recent weeks, Leakes spoke out on a number of occasions regarding the possibility of having her own show, although she hasn’t yet mentioned the Oxygen Network.
In early February, Leakes participated in an interview with Radar Online, during which she claimed she wasn’t sure if she could tolerate another season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and said she wanted her own show.
Weeks later, in an interview with Buzzfeed, Leakes confirmed she was offered her own show but hinted that she turned it down.
“When you do a show by yourself, that’s a lot of pressure. You are the entertainment. I’ve been offered my own show. [But] I don’t want the pressure. You need people around you to balance off of and play off of.”
NeNe Leakes has yet to speak out on a possible series on the Oxygen Network.
