WWE News: US Title Match Scheduled For RAW — Will John Cena Cost Rusev The Title?

It’s been announced that there will be a United States Championship match on this Monday’s RAW that will involve Rusev defending his title against Curtis Axel. This was set up during Tuesday’s SmackDown taping, where Axel vowed to unleash “AxelMania” all over Rusev and the United States Championship. This is leading many people to believe that John Cena will get involved in the title match on Monday, and cost Rusev the US Title, which would force Rusev to agree to a rematch with Cena at WrestleMania. If Rusev loses the US Title, it would be his first ever loss by pinfall.

Over the past several years WWE has done everything to avoid putting the secondary titles on their top stars, and having Cena cost Rusev the US Title would be a way to get the title off of Rusev, making his match with John Cena a non-title match, and it gives Rusev a legitimate reason to accept Cena’s challenge for WrestleMania.

It’s been known that John Cena would be taking on Rusev at WrestleMania for some time now, and WWE did try to throw its fans a curveball on Monday by having Cena tell the fans that he would be taking place in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. However, the fans in attendance didn’t buy it, and just moments later Cena was berated by Stephanie McMahon, who told him that the only way he would be getting a match at WrestleMania would be if Rusev accepts his challenge.

It’s almost a guarantee that John Cena will finally be the one to defeat Rusev — that is if Curtis Axel doesn’t defeat him first. Since Rusev made his WWE debut last year, the plan was always to have him destroy everybody, and then have John Cena — the American hero — take him down at WrestleMania.

If Axel doesn’t end up winning the US Title on Monday, then Cena will definitely end up winning it at WrestleMania. There have been reports that WWE does want to put more focus on its secondary titles due to the fact that Roman Reigns will have a lengthy title run. There’s also a rumor that WWE wants to put more focus on the secondary titles because Brock Lesnar will retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, but that all depends on whether or not Lesnar re-signs with WWE.

It’s also possible that Hulk Hogan will get involved in the John Cena vs. Rusev storyline, and will be in Cena’s corner at WrestleMania.

Monday’s RAW will definitely be an interesting show. WrestleMania is just over three weeks away, and it’s expected that Rusev will finally accept John Cena’s challenge on Monday’s show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
