Ken Grenda - Generous Boss Gives Away 15 Million Dollars

When bus operator Ken Grenda sold his family’s 66 year old Australian bus company he decided that it wasn’t fair for the CEO to pocket all of the profits so instead he took $15 million and split it evenly among his workers, all 1,800 of them.

Grenda ended up providing each of his employees with an $8500 surprise. In fact it was such a surprise that many employees at the bus line thought their bank had made a mistake when they checked their accounts and found thousands of additional dollars.

Speaking to radio station 3AW the CEO noted:

“I get totally dismayed when you see some of the salaries the CEOs get paid,’’ and ‘‘It is far beyond what somebody is worth.’’

He added:

‘‘You only get to where you are by having great people — and we have fantastic people.’’

After he gave away $15 million he receive calls, emails and flowers from various employees, many of whom worked at the company for decades.

Speaking of one reason he gave the money away he said:

‘‘Bus drivers aren’t the highest paid workers and I think some of them have been quite low.’’

We need more CEO’s like Ken Grenda in this world.

Have you ever had a boss surprise you with a big bonus you didn’t know you were getting?

no, because I have been unfortunate enough to be in companies whose finances were very rocky.. late salaries were not surprising..

  2. This guy is more generous than Warren Buffet in my opinion. Warren gives away his money to charity, but does he rewards his wealth with the people from the bottom of the food chain in his string of companies? Based on what I read, no.
