New ‘Community’ Trailer Mocks ‘Avengers’ — And Pulls It Off?
A new Community trailer was released Tuesday to promote the upcoming sixth season.
However, at first glance, it doesn’t seem like Community at all.
The trailer, which was released on YouTube, opens with a dramatic sound effect and a voice-over narration that sounds a lot like Ultron from the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer.
When paying attention to what is being said by the narrator, it becomes obvious that the Avengers trailer was a huge target of spoofing for whomever created and edited the new Community trailer.
“I’m going to show you something beautiful. Everyone screaming in celebration…”
After such a Marvel-ous introduction, the Community trailer takes a turn towards hilarious — especially by adding easter eggs that longtime fans of the former NBC television series would recognize almost immediately.
“You wanted to save Greendale, but you didn’t want it to change. On March 17, ‘Community‘ enters a new dean-mension. New allies. New students. New revelations. Everything is new… but nothing has ‘chang.'”
Just in case the similarities between the Avengers trailer and the new Community trailer were not clear enough, the ending title sequence — Community: Age of Yahoo –– basically sealed the deal.
After dealing with the sad news of the show being cancelled on NBC, most Community fans were excited to hear that the show would be returning with a brand new season — online. As a first step to competing with the likes of Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix, Yahoo decided to jump into the world of original programming by striking a deal with Sony Pictures Television to stream the sixth season online.
According to Vulture, the sixth season of Community will feature 13 episodes. As revealed in the trailer, a new episode will be released every Tuesday beginning March 17.
In an official release, showrunner Dan Harmon was able to discuss his feelings about Community moving to Yahoo.
“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition.”
Even though several of the regular cast members (Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown) are no longer there, it seems as if they are still trying to keep Community fans happy by sticking to the general formula of comic timing, witty dialogue, and pop culture references that helped the show to develop a fan base during its initial run.
