‘The Voice’ Recap: Adam Levine Finally Gets His Country Artist

The teams are getting full on the Voice, with singers and coaches alike scrambling to fill the last few vacancies. Fans of the Voice are seeing fewer chairs turning as coaches become more selective. Coaches also said they were looking for unique singers to bring diversity to their teams, although Blake Shelton continued his lock on country — or at least he continued it with one exception.

Team Adam

Adam Levine has been desperately trying to get a country singer on his team for the Voice, losing to Blake Shelton every time. But when Jack Gregori took the stage and sang “Ring of Fire” in his deep baritone, Levine was the only one to turn his chair, prompting him to tell Shelton how foolish he had been letting Gregori go. Shelton explained the bromance at work in his decision.

“You’re the perfect guy for Adam. His dream has always been to beat me with a country artist. I’m willing to let you go, Jack, to Adam because I want to see what he can finally do… and you are a truly are a great country singer.”

After being shut out in the premiere of the Voice this season, Levine is one team member away from being complete.

Team Blake

Blake Shelton had an easy time tonight picking up Brenna Yaeger for his Voice team. Besides being a country singer, she sang Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me,” so it was pretty obvious which Voice coach she wanted. Not that Adam didn’t give it his best shot, running out twice to hug the girl, who was so nervous he could see her shaking. But that was about all Levine could do to make his case, which Blake pointed out as she and Levine sort of silently slow danced on the stage.

“You guys can go to the prom together after you and I win this show.”

For Shelton, a country artist from Oklahoma seems too easy, but Pharrell Williams gave him a fight in the last audition of the night on the Voice. Levine even stepped in and spoke up for Pharrell, disregarding an alliance he had made with Blake earlier in the night. But seriously, there was no way Corey Kent White was going anywhere on the Voice but with Team Blake.

Shelton also took home Bay Brooks and Brian Johnson, stealing the latter away from Levine, as well.

Team Christina

Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams continued their BFF love fest on the Voice, despite finally facing off against each other in their fight over Koryn Hawthorne. The pair have been showering each other with love in their first season together on the Voice, and tonight was the first time they were the only two to turn their chairs.

Aguilera is known for her love of powerhouse singers on the Voice, but she appealed to the 16-year-old beyond that typecasting of her team.

“You’re already a powerhouse… There’s no vocal coach that can teach what you just did… I’m feeling it from my heart and my gut and my soul.”

This was one of the few battles Pharrell lost this season, although he seemed a little off his game tonight on the Voice.

Jeremy Gaynor, an Army soldier in the Westpoint band, blew the Voice coaches away and turned all four chairs. The battle was bloody, but the “Dirrty” pop diva came out on top, adding him to her team, as well as Katelyn Reed and Ameera Delandro.

Team Pharrell

Pharrell Williams was looking for a little more soul on his team for the Voice, so he faced off against Blake Shelton to win Briar Jonnee over to his team. Pharrell noticed the singer was clutching her microphone in a deathgrip when talking about her nervousness affecting her performance and her need to loosen up.

“You can’t communicate to people if you’re holding things back.”

But the big debate seemed to center around the other coaches’ accusations that Pharrell uses his smooth style when he walks over to contestants at times to make his case. After Christina imitated his walk, comparing it to a stylized limp, it was dubbed his “pimp limp.”

Pharrell saved the pimp limp till after he secured Briar for his team, with Blake limping out onto the stage after him, but his limp definitely lacked the “pimp.”

Only five spots remain open, with Pharrell needing two more singers and the other coaches looking for their last addition.
