George Amal: George Clooney Calls Amal ‘The Smart One,’ Divorce Rumors Out The Window?

George and Amal have been married for a few months now, but George seems really comfortable making jokes about his wife’s intelligence — in a good way, of course. According to Us Weekly, Clooney poked fun at his relationship during a speech at the SeriousFun Children’s Network Hosts Gala in NYC on Monday. Of course, the Monuments Men star made his comment in the most charming way possible.

“Today, there isn’t just one camp, but there’s a thriving community in the U.S., in Europe, in Israel. Since 1988, these camps have brought over a half-million sick kids and their families from over five hun… – over 50 countries – five hundred countries would be too many. There aren’t actually that many. Are there 500 countries? My wife’s the smart one,” George joked. Naturally, the audience laughed.

George and Amal Clooney are both pretty smart, but there is no denying that Amal is very advanced in many different things. She is an international lawyer and activist that has worked with plenty of high profile clients throughout her career. Us Weekly reports that Amal is currently representing Armenia in a case against the chairman of the Turkish Workers Party, Dogu Perincek.

According to People Magazine, George was stag at Monday night’s event, but he had plenty of people to mingle with. Danny DeVito, Meryl Streep, Carole King, Tom Hanks, and David Letterman are just a few of the big names that were in attendance.

“Clooney palled around with his old friend DeVito on the red carpet, mingling with a few of the dozen kids in attendance who have attended Newman’s summer camps. The Tomorrowland star even sweetly asked kids including Joey Green, 12, if they’d gotten a chance to ‘play in the snow,’ ” reports People Magazine.

George and Amal divorce rumors would generally kick up again since the two haven’t been spotted together in quite some time. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there was a rumor that the couple was seriously enjoying their time apart — as Amal works overseas, and George does his whole Hollywood thing here in the States. However, it seems as though the two are just making things work, both understanding that the other has work obligations. They make time for one another when they can, and so far, things seem to be going well.
