Rectal Examination Provision Proposed for Anti-Abortion Bill [Video]

A Virginia lawmaker is getting creative in the State House of Representatives. A bill going before the Senate makes it a law that in order for a woman to get an abortion she must first look at an ultrasound of the baby and listen to its heartbeat. Well what is good for the goose is good for the gander in this case.

State Senator, Janet Howell, has attached a provision to the bill requiring that men will have to go through a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.

Senator Howell told the Huffington Post,

“We need some gender equity here. The Virginia senate is about to pass a bill that will require a woman to have totally unnecessary medical procedure at their cost and inconvenience. If we’re going to do that to women, why not do that to men?”

In the Republican controlled Senate her bill lost by a slim margin of votes losing 21-19. this truly can be considered a victory for women in Virginia.

Texas has passed a similar ultrasound bill and is delaying implementation until it unwinds in court.

Do you think a mother should be required to view an ultrasound in order to have an abortion? Do you think it is fair to make a male take a rectal exam to get a prescription for Viagra?
