‘Mortal Kombat X’ Mobile Version Announced

Warner Bros. and developers NetherRealm have announced that they will be releasing a mobile version of their upcoming title Mortal Kombat X, which they have said will be free to play. The PC and console version of the game will be released on April 14, and the Mortal Kombat X mobile version will be released on the same day for both iOS and Android. NetherRealm are the developers behind both the PC and console version, and have taken the lead for the Mortal Kombat X mobile version. NetherRealm founder Ed Boon has said that the mobile version of the game will ensure that more players than ever will be able to experience the game.

“NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets, or other devices. What’s more, we’ve expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game.”

The cross-connectivity that Boon mentions will ensure that anyone who owns Mortal Kombat X on mobile, as well as on the PC or a console, will be able to unlock features for both the mobile and PC/console that would be unavailable to players otherwise. To unlock this capability, players will need to create an account with Warner Bros. – called a WB Play account – link it with Mortal Kombat X for both mobile and PC/console, and then complete various objectives in order to unlock certain features. Boon, however, did not go into much detail as to what features would be unlocked, or what these kind of objectives would entail.

Boon has also confirmed that the game will include the likes of Raiden and Sub Zero, both of whom Mortal Kombat players have come to love, as well as newcomers to the franchise that are being introduced for Mortal Kombat X. However, Boon did not go into detail as to how many characters would be included in the game, nor did he state whether or not the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X would include all the characters as its PC/console counterpart.

The Mortal Kombat X mobile version will include the classic fighting that gamers have come to know in the series, but will also include card collection and multiplayer combat. As can be seen in the trailer below, players will have to input their orders for characters through swipe based controls. As mentioned above, Mortal Kombat X will be released on all platforms on April 14.
