Carlos Morales is now a single parent with four children — three daughters and a son. The 29-year-old Arizona man’s life took a devastating turn back in January when his wife Erica Morales died during childbirth, reports the Root. On Jan. 15, Erica went into labor at seven months. Doctors reportedly prepped her to delivery the babies by Cesarean section.
“The doctor said she was having too many contractions so it was time to deliver the babies… We took pictures before she went into the delivery room, made some videos, and she was surrounded by family and friends. I said to her, ‘Let’s get these babies out.'”
Unfortunately, the 36-year-old mother-to-be went into hypovolemic shock, losing a substantial amount of blood. Sadly, she died before she even had the chance to meet her four children. The birth of his newborn quadruplets should have been an auspicious occasion, but the memorable moment is now bittersweet because his wife is no longer here.
“We were so excited to start our family… And then it all came crashing down.”
During a recent interview with People magazine, Carlos recounted that life changing day when he welcomed four beautiful children and suffered the loss of his beautiful wife. He gave a lengthy, detailed account, chronicling the series of events that happened that day.
Shortly after midnight on Jan. 16, Carlos recalled how Erica’s health took a devastating turn. The hospital monitors in her room reportedly went off. Medical personnel rushed in and asked him to step out. Unfortunately, that would be the last time he saw his wife alive. An hour later, he was informed that she’d passed. Although the daunting news was quite clear, he admitted processing the words and accepting the life-altering realization that his wife had died was extremely hard to do.
“How could this have happened?… She was fine, and then she wasn’t. She was alive and then she was just gone. I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life,” he said. “My four babies came into the world and then my wife died.”
Although he’s still grieving the devastating loss of his wife, he expressed that their babies keep him going. They’re his reason for living. “I’m learning everything from how to give them a bath, CPR, feeding, and how to manage their sleep schedule,” he said. “I need to be prepared. Everything I do now is for my children.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up in honor of Erica and Carlos Morales and their four children.
