‘Slap Her’ Video Goes Viral, Show How Kids React To Violence Against Women [Video]

Violence against women is a serious matter all across the world. Often times, abuse against women is ignored until an incident takes place that draws the public’s attention. Unfortunately, the awareness is too late for the victim to have avoided the abuse in the first place.

However, Fanpage.it, an Italian media company, decided it was time to approach abuse against women in a way that shows violence is not natural, but something that is learned instead. The video, titled “Slap Her,” shows the reaction of young boys toward an attractive young girl, and how they respond when told to slap her.

A young group of boys were approached and asked about their age, goals in life, and why they chose the goals. After the introductions, the boys were introduced to Martina, a young girl that rendered the boys full of giggles and ushered in feelings of an instant crush on her. Each boy was asked what they like about her, resulting in responses in regards to her hair, eyes, shoes, and even everything about her. The boys are also asked to caress her, which the boys respond to rubbing her face with the back of their hand. Each boy seems to be gentle and respectful toward young Martina.

As the cameraman issues the commands, the boys become more giggly and seem to have fun with the social experiment. However, when they are commanded to slap Martina, the boys respond much differently, as shared by ABC 7 Chicago.

As can be seen in the video, each of the boys hesitates to slap her. The Telegraph reported on the video, sharing Luca Lavarone’s visionary social experiment, which highlights the boy’s reactions.

Each of the boys refused to slap the girl, seeming confused by the demand and reluctant to even respond. When asked why they would not slap her, each had their own unique reasons, seemingly proving that abuse against women does not need to occur in any shape or form.

“As the saying goes, girls should never be hit, not even with a flower.”

Another responded, “You’re not supposed to hit girls, I don’t want to hurt her.”

The short film has received more than 26 million views on YouTube, resulting in a plethora of comments. Most individuals who viewed the video felt the social experiment was awe inspiring. However, some feel that the boys claiming they could not hit her because she was a girl were actually demeaning her because of her gender. Others felt as though the same experiment should be conducted in reverse.
