Iggy Azalea On Recording New Album: ‘I Just Want To Punch Everyone In The Face’

Iggy Azalea, the rapper, had quite the 2014. Iggy Azalea the internet personality, on the other hand, had a year she’d like to forget.

The 24-year-old Australian rapper has been involved in a number of beefs in the short time she’s hit the mainstream, most notably with rapper Azealia Banks who claimed Iggy profited off of black culture. Next of course, was the laughable controversy with a Papa Johns delivery boy that made her (no pun intended) the butt of several jokes on Twitter.

The final straw of course, was the now infamous “cellulite photos” that became all the rage on social media this past month, as reported by Inquistr. The backlash Azalea received on Twitter for showing off her curves online forced Iggy to completely desert social media altogether. And it may have inspired her as she enters the studio to record her new record.

In an interview with The Cruz Show on Power 106 Los Angeles, Iggy talks about how she needed to get away from social media in order to be creative. “I think that it is dangerous to have that kind of negative internet culture,” Azalea told the show’s host. “Especially when you’re someone who has to create things.”

The Grammy nominee continued, discussing how Twitter would affect her mood in the studio.

“It does affect your mood and for me, does affect how I create things. I’m in the middle of recording a second album and I really don’t want to have some angry, aggressive distraction. Every time I enter the studio I just feel like I want to punch everyone in the face. And that’s all the songs [I feel] I’m able to write.”

Though she said that last sentence with a laugh, Azalea got serious about the state of humanity on social media and it directly has impacted her. “It makes me hate people and I don’t want to hate people,” Iggy said bluntly. “My job is entertaining people. I love people, I want to entertain them. That’s why I wanted to do this, to get on stage and make people feel happy. And it’s really hard to do that when you feel like, ‘What the hell is going on with humanity.'”

Whether or not Iggy will ever return to Twitter remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, the social media website has apparently impacted Azalea outside the studio as well. The Daily Mail is reporting that Iggy Azalea made sure to cover up her entire body this time around when spotted taking horseback riding lessons recently.

Take that Twitter.
