Mariah Carey Must Be Livid With Rihanna After Chart Record Is Tied

Mariah Carey always held a chart record by having 23 top 10 hits on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart. However, her ego will have to let go this week, as it has been revealed that Rihanna has tied her record.

Headline Planet describes Rihanna’s triumph.

“While Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” slips two places to #6 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, it rises on the Radio Songs subchart. After reaching a peak of #13 on last week’s Radio Songs chart, the superstar collaboration this week rises to #10 on the strength of its 70 million all-format impressions. In doing so, it helps Rihanna tie a record held by Mariah Carey.”

Mariah Carey hasn’t been able to score any hits by herself lately, but her song “#Beautiful” featuring Miguel did fairly well on Top 40 radio. Unfortunately, Mariah Carey’s most recent album, Me I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse, was called a huge flop. However, as Gawker’s Rich Juzwiak said, Mariah shouldn’t be dismissed.

“Over the course of a career, it’s also become harder for individual artists — especially women — to sell music. Our culture’s obsession with youth only has intensified. It’s insane to look back on the ’80s and see people like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Patti LaBelle churning out mainstream hits while they were in their 40s. That just doesn’t happen today.”

Mariah Carey is having a difficult time concentrating on her musical career, especially with the drama over her divorce from Nick Cannon. Tabloids are eager to spread every single rumor about her. One recent rumor, spread by Closer, is that Ms. Carey is enraged about Nick Cannon’s recent date with Nicole Murphy.

“Mariah Carey reportedly lost it when she saw a snap of estranged husband Nick Cannon with rumoured new girlfriend Nicole Murphy on a Valentine’s date. Superstar Mariah, 44, thinks 34-year-old Nick is rubbing his relationship with Nicole, 47, in her face. Mariah and Nick, who are parents to twins Moroccan and Monroe, officially filed for divorce in December last year, but the source added that she was secretly hoping for a reconciliation.”

Mariah Carey is a fighter though and refuses to be defined by her age or divorce. The Elusive Chanteuse will kick off a Las Vegas residency in May. Very early ticket sales stats indicated the show was doomed. However, no dates have been cancelled, and the Las Vegas residency will give Mariah Carey the chance to prove to her critics that she is still “The Voice.”
