‘Sister Wives’: Kody Brown Almost Quit Show After PMS Comment Backlash

The stars of TLC’s Sister Wives have endured plenty of criticism over the years, but negative comments about plural marriage weren’t what made Kody Brown almost decide to quit the show — he didn’t seriously consider leaving until he got called out for complaining about PMS.

Us Weekly recently shared a sneak peek of the Sister Wives Tell All special set to air this Sunday, and it shows Kody Brown talking about a January episode of the TLC series. According to Kody, PMS wasn’t a “real thing” to him until he decided that it was affecting Christine’s behavior.

During the Sister Wives episode in question, Kody berated third wife, Christine, for expressing her feelings about an incident that upset her. According to Hollywood Life, Christine had complained to Kody about a negative comment one of his friends had made about polygamy. Christine got even more upset after Kody invited this “friend” on a family trip with the Browns. Instead of trying to be sympathetic towards his wife or seriously addressing the matter, he blamed PMS for Christine’s feelings. He claimed that PMS makes his wives “insane,” and he gave Christine a stern lecture about her behavior.

Many Sister Wives viewers were not impressed with Kody Brown’s behavior, and Kody considered quitting the show after he got lambasted for blaming Christine’s emotional state on PMS.

“I literally started talking to the family the week after that aired,” Brown said. “I started talking about, how can we get out of this show? I was dead serious. I had had enough.”

During the Sister Wives Tell All, Kody revealed that he apologized to Christine, and he apologized for not understanding PMS well enough.

Janelle and Meri both had something to say after the PMS incident.

“It frustrates me beyond belief when we’re reduced to our biology,” Janelle said during the episode that made Kody consider quitting. “There’s so much more going on with women than their biology and men are so quick to go, ‘three days a month I don’t have to do anything because she’s on her cycle’ — what the hell!”

However, Meri Brown pointed out that PMS is a real problem that needs to be dealt with.

Kody is still being criticized, but now Sister Wives viewers have a different reason to be upset with him — they can’t believe he divorced first wife, Meri, to wed fourth wife, Robyn. However, as the Inquisitr previously reported, Meri Brown is the one who actually made the divorce decision. During Sunday’s season finale, she’ll finally come clean about the real reason she decided to step aside so that Robyn could become Kody’s only legal wife.

The Sister Wives season finale airs Sunday, March 1, at 8 p.m. ET. It will be followed by the Sister Wives Tell All special at 9 p.m. ET.
