‘Once Upon A Time’ Spoilers: Sweet Swan Queen Moments, Emma’s Dark Side, and Chernabog [Video]
Once Upon a Time will present Emma Swan with a new challenge during the season premiere (“Darkness on the Edge of Town), and Regina might be the perfect person for the Savior to turn to during her time of need. There’ll be bad news for Emma, but a few great moments for Swan Queen fans.
During a recent interview with TV Guide, Once Upon a Time showrunner Adam Horowitz hinted that Emma will find out that she has more in common with Regina than being Henry’s mother and possessing magical powers — she might also find herself tempted to turn to the dark side.
“Emma has spent a long time in the series being told she’s a Savior, being told she’s a hero,” Horowitz said. “Now she’s going to have to face that it’s not as black and white as that.”
The Once Upon a Time promo below seems to suggest that Emma Swan will end up teaming up with Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, and Ursula. However, will she join the Queens of Darkness of her own free will?
During an interview with Hypable, co-showrunner Edward Kitsis hinted that Charming and Snow White haven’t been telling Emma the entire truth about that whole Savior prophecy thing.
“Yeah, I think for Emma right now the two people she trusts most in life are lying to her and she’s suppressing that. So finding that out will be kind of a bummer.”
The big Snowing fib might tempt Emma to turn to the dark side. However, there’s someone who can help with her light vs. dark, hero vs. villain struggle: Regina. Spoiler TV recently shared two Once Upon a Time teasers that might make Snow Queen shippers fangirl just a little. In the clip below, Emma and Regina enjoy a lunch date.
Emma is helping Regina with her quest to find the author of Henry’s mysterious storybook, so hopefully Regina returns the favor by helping Emma overcome her latest challenge. Captain Swan shippers will be happy to hear that Hook will also come to Emma’s aid. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the pirate will “have to fight to protect Emma’s heart.”
The truth about the Savior will come out after she and Regina “inadvertently release a prominent creature from Disney lore.” Recent Once Upon a Time promos seem to suggest that this creature will be Chernabog, the giant winged beast from the “Night on Bald Mountain” segment of the Disney movie Fantasia.

As you can see, Chernabog comes out of the Sorcerer’s hat after Swan Queen tries to release the fairies trapped inside of it. Henry’s moms will spend part of the season premiere trying to figure out how to clip the giant bat’s wings.
