Baltimore Ravens Rumors: Haloti Ngata Could Be Cut, Colts Interested In Picking Him Up

The Baltimore Ravens are rumored to be nearing a big decision on Haloti Ngata, with contract talks nearing a tipping point that could mean either a new deal or an outright release for the big defensive lineman.

The Ravens are reportedly trying to restructure Ngata’s contract in an effort to free up some money for free agency. Ngata has a $16 million cap hit in the coming season, and though the team is high on Ngata and team owner Steve Biscotti even called him a “cornerstone” of the team’s history, if no deal is reached, then Ngata might end up being cut.

So far, there is no clear timeline of when it could happen, but with free agency looming the Ravens will likely want a decision on Ngata soon so go into the free agent period with a clear understanding of what they can spend.

News of Ngata’s possible release was hinted by insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter wasn’t the only one hearing rumblings of a split between the Baltimore Ravens and Haloti Ngata. Jason La Canfora reported this week that, “barring some significant progress I would not be surprised if Haloti Ngata has played his last game as a Raven.”

If the Baltimore Ravens do cut Haloti Ngata, he may end up being snatched up by the Indianapolis Colts. SB Nation reporter Josh Wilson said the Colts have expressed interest, and would be a natural move for Ngata.

“If Ngata is released, the Colts would seem like a great fit,” he wrote.

“Chuck Pagano was with the Ravens from 2008-2011 and coached Ngata, including as defensive coordinator in 2011. The Colts run a similar defense to the one the Ravens have run, and the team really needs defensive line help. Ngata would join former teammate Arthur Jones in Indy and perhaps Cory Redding as well, depending on what the defensive end decides to do pertaining to retirement Pagano called Ngata a ‘game wrecker’ during the 2014 season before the Colts faced the Ravens, and the coach’s history with the defensive lineman goes beyond that.”

There is still hope within the Baltimore Ravens franchise that they will be able to structure a deal that keeps Haloti Ngata, though he could be preparing to leave. that Ngata would like to stay, but is ready for the possibility that it might not happen.
