‘Destiny’ App Now Lets You Move Items Without Visiting The Tower

Destiny players with multiple characters have long lamented the process of moving weapons and items from one character to another. Bungie revealed Thursday that yesterday’s 1.1.1 patch released for the PlayStation and Xbox game also made handling items less burdensome thanks to the website and mobile companion app.

The typical process for moving items between characters involve going to orbit, choosing the Tower as a destination, and then waiting for it to load. Players then had to go to the Vault and move items from their player to the Vault. Then they had to switch characters, choose the Tower as a destination once in orbit, and wait for it to load. Then there was a short walk to the Vault to grab the items that were just moved.

Let’s be honest and say that this was one of the most time-consuming and least favorite activities in Destiny. The last thing you wanted to be was the guy in the middle of a Raid who had to say, “Oh no. I left my best Raid weapon on another character. Please wait five minutes while I change characters and go to the Tower twice to retrieve it.”

All of those tedious steps have now been completely done away with via the Destiny website and Companion App for iOS and Android. Engineering Lead Chris Gossett confirmed that mobile Vault management was a highly requested feature by community members and gave a brief tutorial on how to move items.

“On www.bungie.net, Android phone, or iOS device, go to an item in your inventory and bring up the item detail screen. There are two options available (Equip and Move to Vault). Remember, Equip from Companion works only when you’re not playing Destiny in a combat space. With Vault transfer, there is no such restriction. You can interact with your vault whenever or wherever — even in combat.

Hit Move to Vault to transfer an item to your vault. Conversely, when viewing an item in your Vault there’s a button that says Take from Vault. Doing so will move the item to the character currently in focus on the app. If you’re transferring an item that has a quantity (like materials) you’ll get a prompt that asks ‘How many?’ If you just need a couple, there’s no need to take the whole stack. Just get what you need. [emphasis theirs]”

The app even allows users to split stacked items like ammo synthesis and upgrade materials.Destiny Mobile Vault (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

After fiddling with the app and website, it is confirmed that this update is a major boon and time saver to Destiny players. It took seconds to move items from one character to another, when before it would take minutes. An option to select multiple items would be nice, but this is a great start by Bungie.
