WWE News: Stephanie McMahon Furious Over AJ Lee’s Tweets — Could It Lead To An Angle Between The Two?
This past Monday, Stephanie McMahon posted a tweet regarding women’s rights and equal pay for women — a tweet which former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee responded to, and in her response, she was very critical of how WWE has treated their women’s division over the past couple of years. The Wrestling Observer has reported that Stephanie’s response to AJ was ordered by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Speaking of Vince, he also sent out a tweet regarding fans who are upset about the way WWE has been treating its women’s division.

Over the past couple of years, the WWE Divas have been used as a buffer on big shows, as they’re placed in between the semi-main-event, and the main-event itself to cool the crowd down, so they’ll be hot for the main-event. The WWE Divas division hasn’t been meaningful since the two greatest WWE Divas of all-time — Trish Stratus and Lita — retired in 2006.
There have been rumors that a lot of the women in WWE are upset with how they’re being used, and are even more upset that the women in NXT are allowed to have long and meaningful matches.
Several months ago, WWE’s YouTube channel posted a video that teased a possible match up between Stephanie McMahon and AJ Lee at some point down the road, so there is a chance that WWE could turn this Twitter exchange into an actual wrestling angle in an effort to heat up the WWE Divas division. However, there have also been rumors that AJ Lee may not be returning to WWE any time soon, and may not be at WrestleMania.
AJ has been out of WWE action since December due to an injury, and there’s no official timetable for her to return. It’s likely that WWE does want her back in time for WrestleMania, so if she’s going to make a return, she’ll return within the next couple of weeks.
Whether WWE changes its stance on its Divas division remains to be seen, as Vince McMahon seems to change his mind about everything every other day. So, he may be feeling it right now, and tomorrow he may be feeling something else. So you never know with him, but Vince certainly knows that many of the women on his roster aren’t very happy about how they’re being used, and that they would like to be featured in a more prominent role.
