Madonna Falls Off Stage During London Performance [Video]

Madonna fell down a flight of stairs tonight while performing “Living for Love” at the Brit Awards in London.

The Material Girl was unhurt, however, in the fall, and was able to soldier on with the set, the first time she performed at the Brit Awards in 20 years. Madge had notched 13 number one hits in the U.K. since 1985 and is currently promoting her new album, Rebel Heart.

The New York Post has the details on Madonna’s wardrobe malfunction (see footage embedded below).

“Madonna’s huge cape appeared to get snagged by one of her dancers, pulling the 56-year-old backwards and causing her to tumble down a mini flight of stairs. The sound of her hitting the ground was audible and sent gasps around the 02 Arena, which holds 20,000. Despite being clearly rattled, she continued with her matador-themed performance and the crowd screamed their appreciation for the singer’s stoical show.”

Billboard noted the irony that “Yes, she fell during a song that features the line ‘watched me stumble’. ”

Those in attendance at the show included Russell Crowe, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian. West and Taylor Swift, among others, were also due to perform on stage.

Madonna posted the following message on Instagram about the mishap that occurred during the award ceremony finale. “Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight! But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine!”

Sam Smith (British Breakthrough Act) and Ed Sheeran (British Album of the Year) took home the top honors.

The Queen of Pop was also rumored to be in line for a lifetime achievement award at the event.

Rebel Heart, which has leaked in part but not officially released, has received two four-star reviews in the Telegraph and the Sun. A Madonna world tour is expected to follow. The album is scheduled for a March 9 release.

In additional good news for Madonna, an earlier report that she was banned from BBC’s Radio 1 for being too old for the audience demographic apparently was inaccurate. A spokesman for the radio station that programs for the 15-29 cohort claimed that there was no ban, but seemed non-committal as far as future airtime for the “Living for Love” single. “But to say the song was ‘banned’ is an incredible lie and one that some are pushing to promote an obvious agenda against Madonna,” the spokesperson asserted.
