Massachusetts Man Sells Snow From His Yard And Ships It To Warmer States

For people who live in areas that are too warm to ever see any snow, but hope and pray one day they will — Kyle Waring, of Massachusetts, is the answer to their prayer. Waring is selling the snow right out of his yard. Anyone can purchase a 6 pound box of snow for a mere $89, as reported by Fox 4 News.

The idea of selling snow started as a joke between Kyle and his wife as they were outside shoveling snow at their home in Manchester-by-the-sea, about an hour north of Boston. According to National Sun Times, the couple laughed as they talked about how funny it would be to ship their snow to all their family and friends.

That is usually how all great ideas begin. Waring decided to make that idea a reality and created his website, ShipSnowYo. At first, Waring was marketing and selling the snow inside 16.9 ounce water bottles for $19.99.

However, the snow managed to melt on most of those 112 orders before it reached its destination.

Those not-so-thrilling results spawned a new business plan for selling and packaging the snow. Waring told Boston he decided to sell in bulk, with a whole new method of shipping. He tossed the water bottles and began selling a six pound package of snow for $89.

“I put the snow in a plastic bag, and put that in tinfoil. Then I put that package in an insulated container that’s an inch and a half thick, and ship it overnight. It’s sealed tight in Omaha steaks packaging.”

Although some of the snow still manages to melt within the guaranteed 20 hour delivery to anywhere in the United States, Waring’s website guarantees that upon arrival, the customer will have enough snow to make at least 10 to 15 good snowballs.

Waring is selling his 6 pound packages of snow faster than he can package and ship them. ShipSnowYo is now offering an even larger box of snow, consisting of 10 pounds of the cold white stuff for $119.

Bustle reveals that Waring’s website states this is an “attempt to get rid of some of the 70 inches of snow” that is piled up all over Boston, all while making money in the process.

“We’re drowning in 5 ft. of snow. Trapped in our tiny ass apartments and dealing with 3 hour long commutes … we desperately need your help getting this snow out of our city!”

Talk about laughing all the way to the bank. Who would have ever imagined you could sell snow on the internet?

This is not Waring’s only means of income. He actually works full-time for an online gaming firm, GSN Games. The snow gig is only a side job. Although Waring says it makes him wonder about other seasonal items, such as fall foliage.

Regardless, Waring is no flake. And while anyone else would think it would be a snowball’s chance in — well, you know where — before anyone could sell snow on the internet — guess again. Waring told Boston he would sell the snow until the orders quit coming in, or until it melts, whichever comes first.
