Nintendo Network Unveiled

Nintendo fans take heed: the Nintendo online service for the Wii U will be the Nintendo Network. Having learnt from the successes of the PSN and Xbox Live, the Nintendo Network will offer gamers online content and competitions.

Wii U owners will be given personal accounts and will also boast NFC functionality. Explaining the functionality was Satoru Iwata, Nintendo frontman, who said:

“The NFC I’m referring to here is the non-contact NFC standard that is compatible with FeliCa and MIFARE, and is expected to be widely used around the world in the near future. By installing this functionality, it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via non-contact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world. Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments.”

Great news, then, for Nintendo devotees. Both the Wii U and the Nintendo Network will be blowing gamers’ minds by Christmas.
