Taylor Swift Viciously Attacked For Donating Money

Yup, it’s true — Taylor Swift is an awful human being. What did she do to be so awful? She donated $50,000 to New York City public schools. Capital New York originally reported on Swift‘s donation.

“Swift, a recent New York City transplant, pledged in October to donate all the proceeds of her hit single ‘Welcome to New York’ to city education. Though Swift has yet to publicly announce her donation, Department of Education officials confirmed that she has already made at least one gift [the $50,000] to the school system.”

According to Entertainmentwise, Taylor Swift’s kindness has caused an online backlash.

“It’s been reported that the ‘Blank Space’ hit maker, who was the most successful artist of 2014, donated the hefty sum from the profits of her track ‘Welcome to New York’ to schools in the area, but while you’d assume many would see the singer’s gesture as an act of kindness and generosity, her move hasn’t got quite the positive reception we reckon she was hoping for.”

Many on Twitter have been criticizing Taylor Swift for not being generous enough.

According to the New York Daily News, Swift is going to continue helping schools in New York City.

“The city Education Department initially told the Daily News the donation would be a one-shot deal. But a department spokeswoman later said Swift would continue to donate proceeds to the city’s public schools, although it was unclear how much more.”

Swift has come under a lot of criticism lately for seemingly frivolous reasons. Last week, according to the Guardian, Taylor Swift’s legal team registered assorted lyrics, including “this sick beat.”

“While there are precedents in the world of celebrity and sport, Swift is the first musician to make a pre-emptive strike against opportunistic third parties. Trademarks are like copyright in battle armour. While not totally impervious to direct attack, their main function is to scare off anyone even thinking about mounting an attack.”

Some see Swift’s moves as good business, while others see her moves as hypocritical to her sweetheart image. One fan on reddit was not impressed with Taylor Swift‘s latest moves.

“I found out about her trade marking certain phrases like ‘this sick beat.’ I mean I can see why she’d do it and I thought that well it’ll stop big businesses from ripping her off but surely fans would be too small for her to bother with. Then I read this article and I just felt really cheap after she said one of the main reasons for her success was her close connection to her fans. [sic]”
