Calista Flockhart To Make TV Return In ‘Supergirl’

Calista Flockhart is making her return to television once again. The actress, who broke out as the lead in Ally McBeal, is heading to CW for the new show Supergirl.

News hit that Calista was recently cast as Supergirl’s alter ego. As Cat Grant, Flockhart will play a self-starting media mogul and the founder of CatCo. Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El will work as an assistant to Grant.

The last time we saw Flockhart, she was wrapping up the ABC ensemble drama Brothers & Sisters. After the show wrapped, she had an arc on Showtime’s Web Therapy.

As the Inquisitr reported, CW’s Supergirl only has a pilot in the works, but it’s pretty much a lock to go to series, seeing as the network has set up a pretty viable legacy with their other superhero series such as Arrow and The Flash.

Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin was born on Krypton and escaped from the planet. When she arrived on Earth, Kara was adopted by the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her powers. The series will tell the story of the 24-year-old dejected girl, who is compared to a slave for having to hold back her super powers. Then, an unexpected event forces her to use her special abilities, which in turn gives Kara the confidence to embrace her powers to help others in the city.

In addition to Calista Flockhart being added to the cast, it was announced that Laura Benanti from Nashville will play Kara’s mom from the planet of Krypton. When the Inquisitr first reported on the new series, CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler seemed to have a very clear vision on the potential series.

She described the DC superhero as “a very strong, independent young woman. She’s coming into her own. She’s dealing with family issues. She’s dealing with work issues. It’s a female empowerment story.”

As for the costume, Tassler promised the audience at the TCA press tour that it’s going to be “awesome.”

Star Melissa Benoist retweeted her support of the new cast addition.

What do you think about Calista Flockhart joining the show? Do you think this will be another successful series for the CW?
