Metrolink Train Crash: Los Angeles Commuter Train Derails After Hitting Truck, 30 Injured [Breaking]


A Los Angeles bound Metrolink train derailed this morning when it hit a tractor trailer that has stopped on the train tracks. At least 30 people have been injured, with possible fatalities.

According to NBC Los Angeles, at least three train cars derailed between Oxnard and Camarillo. The incident happened just before 6 a.m. PST. The accident is the result of a collision with a vehicle that was on the tracks. Witnesses say there was a vehicle on fire, along with three train cars off the track. One car was seen laying on its side in the middle of the road.

CBS Los Angeles reports that the vehicle that was hit on the tracks is a tractor trailer. Scott Johnson of Metrolink says the incident involved Metrolink Train 102.

“For some reason there was a tractor trailer on the tracks there at Rice Avenue and Train 102 collided with it.”

Metrolink has confirmed at least 30 injuries from the incident, but is currently not releasing any information on possible fatalities. Photos of the incident have started popping up on social media along with extensive delays for the commuter rail system.
