‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder Teases His Directorial Debut

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 is on a bit of a break, but the next episode is very special. Ian Somerhalder will direct The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 16, titled “The Downward Spiral.” This is his directorial debut, and he teased the episode a bit when he attended Wizard World’s Cleveland Comic Con event.

According to Screen Spy, Somerhalder spoke about his life, working on The Vampire Diaries and the special episode during a 45-minute session, and he made his excitement for “The Downward Spiral” clear when he spoke about it.

“I just turned in my cut yesterday. Coolest thing ever. I worked with 130 people – well, even more with artists included, about 170 who all had my back. I had an incredible story that Brian Young and Caroline Dries wrote. And literally a group of my – my cast – my brothers and sisters, everyone had my back. It was the coolest environment to learn in, and thank you Warner Bros for the couple million bucks to spend really creating an incredible 42 minutes of television. It was my favorite professional experience ever.”

Somerhalder also revealed that the episode title comes from the title of his favorite Nine Inch Nails album, and he made sure to tell those in attendance to watch the episode live because the episode is “bada**.”

What will happen during the next episode The Vampire Diaries? Caroline, who is played by Candice Accola, flipped her humanity switch at the end of the last episode, and the next episode will focus in on her and her behavior.

Julie Plec did tease a bit about Caroline’s next move to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I think fans can expect a surprisingly delightful and on the verge of crazy, Caroline. She really does believe when she said, “My experience will be different. I won’t be basket cases like the rest of you, I’ll handle myself well. So she sets out very clearly to do that. And the question is, how long will she be able to keep it together, and who might play a part in helping to unravel her.”

However, Damon will also need to deal with the fact his mother is in the prison world. He will battle with himself over whether to tell Stefan about their mother or not. Plec teased that Damon will need to decide how to tell his “poor little brother that has mourned her since he was 10 that she might be an evil, evil person trapped in bad places.”

A preview released for The Vampire Diaries episode by The CW teases Caroline’s behavior, and photos for the episode shared by Buddy TV also focused in on Caroline.

According to a previous Inquisitr report, fans will see Caroline “really grow as a character and challenge herself in new ways and just accept the chaos that comes with the death of a parent.”

The next Vampire Diaries episode will air on March 12. Are you excited to see what happens next?
