‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’: Jamie Dornan, Director, Screenwriter All Bow Out Of Sequels

Fans of the Fifty Shades of Grey film are in shock after reports that Jamie Dornan will not return for the second and third installment of the planned trilogy, but he’s only the latest in a series of shakeups at the Fifty Shades franchise, with screenwriter Kelly Marcel and director Sam Taylor-Johnson both calling it quits recently, according to Mashable.

The exit of Marcel and Taylor-Johnson is allegedly due to “creative differences” and a rocky relationship with Fifty Shades of Grey author E. L. James, who Mashable reported has been “demanding, difficult and control-freaky” throughout the creative process of the first film.

Given the subject matter of Fifty Shades of Grey, can anyone really be surprised?

James wants to write the sequel herself, Fifty Shades Darker, as she feels the first movie wasn’t true enough to her book. The Sun reported that an unnamed source told them that if James pens the sequel screenplay, expect a lot more sex.

“All the biggest arguments were about the sex scenes in the film. Erika (E. L. James) wanted the movie to be loyal to the book and much more explicit. But Sam pushed back because she wanted the movie to be more than just a collection of S&M scenes.”

Despite earning over $300 million at the box office so far, the problems with the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise have now extended from behind the camera to the on-screen talent. Initial rumors of star Jamie Dornan’s exit were attributed to allegations Dornan was not happy with co-star Dakota Johnson’s performance, according to Australian magazine NW.

“Jamie does not think his performance was bad – instead he blames Dakota and says it wasn’t possible to have chemistry with her. He says Dakota gave him nothing to work with.”

Now it seems Dornan has another more compelling reason to drop out of the Fifty Shades franchise. As Inquisitr previously reported, Dornan’s wife, actress Amelia Warner, allegedly doesn’t want him doing any more racy BDSM sex scenes, despite her refusal to watch the film.

Likewise, Dakota Johnson’s mom, Melanie Griffith, let it slip she can’t bring herself to watch Fifty Shades of Grey while the mother and daughter duo walked the red carpet at the Oscars Sunday, leading to a rather awkward moment when Dakota snapped at Melanie on live TV.

Perhaps Johnson is a bit tense in light of the recent breakup with her boyfriend, Matthew Hitt, as reported by Us Magazine.

“Sometime over the holidays, they broke up. Her life was getting too crazy and it wasn’t something that he wanted to be a part of.”

It seems Jamie Dornan is making a wise move by dropping out of further Fifty Shades of Grey films. What do you think?
