Amber Portwood Talks Drug Addiction, Refuses To Watch ‘Teen Mom’ Because She Was ‘High The Whole Time’

Amber Portwood was recently featured in a Getting To Know special on MTV. The episode, which gave fans a brief run down of the reality star, showed Portwood looking back on her time with the network.

During the show, Portwood was seen opening up about her addiction to opiates.

“You could tell something was up I was out of it a little bit,” she explained, according to a February 23 report by Wetpaint Entertainment.

“They told me I had Scoliosis but I never went and got it checked out like I was supposed to. But I still got prescribed opiates for it. And that’s when it just spun out of control. [In] Teen Mom you see how everything changes. You can just tell.”

Throughout Teen Mom‘s first four seasons, Portwood was often seen feuding with her child’s father, Gary Shirley, and in one instance, things got physical.

“I would stay up all day and all night taking drugs 24 hours, and then I would get so high that I’d forget that I took pills, and I’d take more. A whole script would be gone in less than a week. That’s 180 opiates.”

Amber Portwood’s drug addiction eventually led her to make an unconventional choice. Instead of serving out her probation and attending drug rehabilitation classes, she decided to turn herself in for a five-year term. After serving 17 months, Portwood was given an early release.

Also during Amber Portwood’s Getting To Know special, as reported by Wetpaint Entertainment, the young mother explained why she couldn’t bring herself to watch any of her old episodes of Teen Mom.

“I can just see myself completely going down hill. I can’t watch Teen Mom ’cause I’m high the whole time. It wasn’t happy moments of my life at all. It’s like an alcoholic watching back in the day when they’re drunk.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Portwood is currently dating Matthew Baier, a man she met after she was released from prison. However, while she was hoping to keep things private, at least for a while, his identity was eventually leaked, and Portwood was forced to defend her man against claims of him being a Teen Mom super fan.

On December 23, Radar Online shared several tweets from Baier, in which he insulted many of Portwood’s fellow Teen Mom stars, including Jenelle Evans, Farrah Abraham, and Kailyn Lowry.
