‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Director Talks Groot’s Penis

Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s director, James Gunn, has been discussing the difficulties of creating Groot and Rocket Raccoon, specifically mentioning the former’s penis and why it wasn’t included.

Gunn took to Facebook to talk about Groot’s creation, while also revealing a few more tidbits regarding the character too.

The filmmaker admitted that he always saw “Groot” as a teenager, before he explained how they had to make several alterations because, at first, the original designs made him look old.

Gunn then went on to reveal that alongside the various other members of Guardians of the Galaxy’s visual team they had a huge issue working on the character’s “crotch area.”

Gunn explained that several of the designs they tried out simply looked peculiar, and they actually worked on this area of the character for an obscene amount of time.

“Either a piece of bark looked too cheesy and fig leaf like or a root was in just the wrong place that looked like an ingrown penis. There were more iterations of Groot’s crotch than any part of his body.”

Gunn also explained that he and his visual effects team also had a hard time creating the mouth and feet of Rocket Racoon too. Gunn also took the time to wish good luck to the “VFX, special effect, and makeup folks at the Academy Awards,” which were held on Sunday evening.

Gunn added, “Whether or not they win, they’ve already won the Oscar in my heart.”

Earlier this month, James Gunn also discussed the upcoming sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, which he is once again writing — solo this time — and directing. Gunn explained, via Den Of Geek, that the film isn’t based on any comics, and is instead an original story that he’s created.

“It’s not really based on anything. The story for Guardians 2 is an original story that I came up with that I started working on actually while I was shooting Guardians 1, and it’ll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quill’s father and who he is and what’s going on with that. We’ll get to know some of the characters a little bit more and then we’re going to meet a couple of new characters who will be very important to Guardians movies and probably important to the Marvel Universe as a whole.”

Guardians of the Galaxy was a rousing success for Marvel Studios. Not only was it met with critical acclaim, but it also grossed $750 million at the box office too. Because of this success, its sequel, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, is due out in May of 2017.
