Boyfriend Arrested For Drowning Four-Months Pregnant Girlfriend And Burning Her Remains

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, a jealous boyfriend drowned his four months pregnant girlfriend and burned her remains in a field.

Nineteen-year-old Courtney Hyriease Velasquez was arrested at a residence on Upland Road on Friday morning and admitted killing his girlfriend, 18-year-old Dawanna Thomas.

Rosanne Hughes with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office told reporters, “So he stripped her, put her in a bag, he put a log over the bag in the middle of a creek, and then moved the body, he moved it to another location.”

The suspect now faces capital murder charges for the deaths of Thomas and her unborn child and may be sentenced to death.

News 4 San Antonio reported that Thomas’ bereaved mother, Tear Bedford, told them, “To even kill her for the second time, you killed her for the first time, then you killed her the second time by burning her body. To me, that ain’t love, that’s the devil.”

According to Bedford, her daughter was pregnant with a girl and the suspect was the child’s father.

In describing the relationship between her late daughter and Velasquez, Bedford said, “He’s always been violent, take her money, take her phone, break her phones, every month break her phone. (I told her) this dude is gonna kill you, and that’s just what he did.”

While waiting for the legal system to run its course, Bedford said that if she ever comes face-to-face with her daughter’s killer, she would ask him why he did it.

“I still want to see justice even though he’s locked up. To me, that’s not justice served. I’m seeking the death penalty for whoever had hands in it,” Bedford said.

The suspect is yet to be charged officially, as Bexar County Sheriff Investigators revealed that their investigation is still active and that they are still not ruling out additional arrests as a possibility.
