Blizzard skipping out on BlizzCon this year

If you were looking forward to attending this year’s BlizzCon event, bad news: the developer announced today that there won’t be a BlizzCon event this year.

Blizzard has traditionally held BlizzCon just about every year for the past 6 years, only backing out for one year in 2006. So why are they backing out this time? “In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013,” Blizzard explained.

The studio does have a lot on its plate, in fairness. They’re still hard at work on Diablo III, the next World of Warcraft expansion, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and their yet-to-be-shown MMO, Project Titan. If it means that any of these titles will get out the door sooner, I’m sure Blizzard fans can wait an extra year for BlizzCon 2013.

Most of Blizzard’s big news usually comes out of BlizzCon, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be hearing anything new about the developer’s upcoming titles throughout the year. Diablo III is expected to release this year, so we’ll at least be hearing more about that in the coming months, and likely Heart of the Swarm as well.

Are you disappointed that BlizzCon 2012 has been canceled?
