Glenn Buratti: When No One Showed Up For 6-Year-Old Autistic Boy’s Birthday Party, The Local Sheriff’s Department Did Something Awesome

Glenn Buratti will have a sixth birthday party he’ll remember for the rest of his life, and he has the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office to thank.

Glenn’s mother was planning a big party for the boy, who suffers autism, but in the days before the party she started to get nervous.

“From the minute he woke up that day he wanted to know how many minutes until his friends came. None of the kids’ parents RSVP’d, but I was still holding on to the hope that some of them would show up. It never crossed my mind that it would be zero,” Ashlee Buratti told the News-Gazette.

But no one ended up showing, leaving Glenn crushed.

“To see the look on his face killed me inside,” Ashlee Buratti told Local 6.

Glenn Buratti’s mom decided to share her frustration on a Facebook page for the Osceola community.

“I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son,” she shared. “We invited his whole class (16 kids) over for his 6th birthday party today. Not one kid came.”

But luckily for her, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department saw the message. Members decided to give Glenn a memorable birthday party, so they arranged for a helicopter flyover brought Glenn some gifts of their own.

Others who saw the Facebook message joined in, bringing their own kids to the party along with presents for Glenn. One woman even bought him a new bike.

That wasn’t the end of Glenn’s birthday festivities, either. The sheriff’s department came back later in the week, bringing some squad cars and police dogs and even letting Glenn have a tour of their SWAT truck.

“Glenn just smiled the whole time and waved,” Buratti said. “It was amazing.”

The party then spread beyond the sheriff’s department, with the local fire department also deploying a truck.

“We got to the stop sign by our house and Glenn was like: ‘The fire truck’s at our house!'” his mom recalled. “I said, ‘It’s okay, They’re there to tell you happy birthday.'”

The family was so overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for their son that they took to Facebook again to thank everyone.

“Huge thank you to Osceola County Sheriff’s Department, Osceola County Fire Rescue and Frank who owns Koffee Kup for coming to our house today for my son Glenn’s Birthday. He had such a great time! I’m sure the neighbors were peeking out of their windows or taking cover. Such an amazing thing for our local law enforcement and firefighters to do for us. Thank you to everyone involved.”

For Glenn Buratti, it was certainly a sixth birthday he’ll never forget.
