Heath Ledger wins Best Supporting Actor Oscar

He did it.

Heath Ledger has won the best supporting actor award at tonight’s Academy Awards.

Ledger was both a bookies and sentimental favorite for the award, having picked up a range of lead up awards for his role as the Joker in the Dark Knight.

As we sadly know, the boy from Perth left this world in a New York apartment in January 2008. The award was accepted on behalf of Ledger by his parents and sister.

He is the only Australian oscar winner tonight.

    He truly deserved the award! One of the best performances I've ever seen. I had complete and utter doubts about him playing the joker. However, after I saw The Dark Knight, I couldn't have been happier to be more wrong about him. Rest In Peace Heath Ledger.
