Philip Pickett Jailed For ‘Sex Attacks’ On Students In Sound Proof Music Rooms

Philip Pickett has been sentenced to 11 years behind bars for sex attacks that he committed from 1979 to 1983. According to the Huffington Post UK, the music teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London has been convicted of rape after being accused of bringing students into sound proof music rooms, and sexually assaulting them where no one could hear their screams.

“At a hearing today, Judge Charles Wide, who jailed Pickett earlier this month, ordered that two further indictments in relation to allegations by two women dating back to the 1970s lie on file and lifted reporting restrictions,” reports Huffington Post UK.

Philip Pickett raped a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, both of whom were his students. The 16-year-old was instructed to take her top off so that Pickett could assess her breathing. He then told her to lay on the floor, and then he assaulted her. During her lesson the next week, Pickett raped her. The girl told her mother that she no longer wanted to take music lessons, but the charges against Pickett were not filed until 2013. After his arrest, two more women came forward, one who was 17 at the time of the attack, and another who was 21.

According to The Independent, Pickett was found guilty on three charges of sexual assault, but not guilty on six additional counts.

“This is very far from an isolated case, and I am aware of a great many horrendous allegations involving musicians and music teachers. It is absolutely vital that the inquiry into child sexual abuse set up by the Government investigates properly how so much widespread abuse, and psychological cruelty and bullying, have been a major feature of classical music for so long,” said campaigner Ian Pace.

Inappropriate relationships between teachers and students pop up in the news quite frequently. Earlier this week the Inquisitr reported that Nicole DuFault, 35, was indicted on 40 counts after allegedly having sexual relations with six male students at a school in New Jersey.

“The victims were 14- and 15-year-old boys, and the assaults occurred many times in 2013 and 2014, authorities said Tuesday. They say some of the sex acts occurred on school property and in DuFault’s car.”

DuFault’s attorney has made claims that the male students involved in these sex acts were to blame, and that they were the ones initiating the relations with their teacher. She is due in court on March 6.
