Johnny Depp’s ‘Hypocritical’ Actor To Rockstar Career Move

Johnny Depp has formed a band with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Alice Copper called “Hollywood Vampires.” Depp has announced this new venture only one week after an interview in Berlin in which he told reporters that actors who become musicians “make him sick.”

Johnny Depp made the statement during a press tour for his latest film Mortdecai. During his interview, Depp admitted to having an ongoing interest in music but with no plans to actually have a music career.

“I hate the idea, ‘Come see me play the guitar because you’ve seen me in 12 movies.’ It shouldn’t be that way. You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music … I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records, and it’s still going. Music is still part of my life. But you won’t be hearing the Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist.”

Depp’s comments struck a nerve in a few of his acting colleagues. Namely, Orange Is The New Black star Taryn Manning, who took to Twitter in her own defense after Johnny’s interview was released to the public.

“Seriously the most ignorant article I’ve ever read. Maybe cause I’m a musician.”

Johnny’s comments were also seen as an attack on Mortdecai co-star Gweneth Paltrow. Gweneth has recorded vocals on many motion picture and television soundtracks.

Johnny Depp is no stranger to the world of music. He has appeared on songs and albums of many artists, such as Aerosmith and Paul McCartney. But after telling the world about the screen to radio people who “make him sick,” Depp has been deemed hypocritical for now forming a band and basically promoting an idea that he recently admitted to hating.

Johnny Depp’s group, Hollywood Vampires, have already booked performance dates with Depp as a headliner. The group was originally formed by Alice Cooper years ago with other stars Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr, according to the Guardian. Now with the same band name, Johnny Depp’s group has already recorded with Paul McCartney as a featured artist.

Johnny and the other members of Hollywood Vampires have been performing quite frequently. They recently performed in December at a California charity event and in London. At the time, there was no knowledge that the musicians had actually formed a band.

Johnny Depp’s supergroup, Hollywood Vampires, is scheduled to play in the Rio festival this September. The show will also include performances by System of a Down and Queens of the Stone Age.
