Will Smith Does Impromptu ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’ Rap, Tells David Letterman ‘There’s A Negro Inside You’ [Video]

If Will Smith is anything, he is spontaneous. Upon entering the crowd at David Letterman’s The Late Show, Smith heard the band playing his famous “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” song. Instead of just dancing along or ignoring the band like some late night talk show guests do, Will went even further by approaching band leader Paul Shaffer, getting the microphone and performing an impromptu rap of his own song. Apparently folks are loving the video titled “Will Smith Raps For The Late Show Audience – David Letterman” on the Late Show with David Letterman YouTube channel, because in 10 hours it has amassed more than 3,000 views. Perhaps it’s the funny way that Will teases Letterman that is sending the video into viral land, with Smith telling Dave that he, too, can rap like Will. When Letterman protests, Will tells Dave that Letterman has a “Negro inside of him,” and that line sends the talk show off into a funny riff about how he can’t wait to tell his wife what he’s bringing home.

Of course, the original Will Smith – Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It – YouTube video has plenty more views than that, with more than 9 million views for the accompanying video of the song that was first released in 1997. Making the talk show and press junket rounds to promote his new Focus movie, Will Smith has been in the news lately for opening up about his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, and how marriages go through cycles of death and rebirth, as reported by the Inquisitr.

Another appearance that was really popular, as witnessed by the YouTube video views of “Will Smith and Jimmy Fallon Beatbox “It Takes Two” Using iPad App,” is that selfsame video on the YouTube channel of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which has gained more than 8.3 million views in only one week. In that appearance, Fallon and Will Smith created a beatbox loop track by using an iPad app. The segment seemed to start off rocky, with the duo singing “It Takes Two” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, but it ended up being a very popular segment. Other YouTube videos show the remaining parts of Will’s interview with Letterman, wherein Smith talks about his parenting style and what it’s like to be the father of a teenage girl.

Besides Focus, Will Smith will star in ‘Bounty’ for Paramount, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter?.
