Obama Delaying Budget, Republicans Furious At President [Video]

Republicans are furious with President Obama for delaying by one week the release of his budget. This is the third year in a row that the President has missed his statutory date for submitting a budget. The President is required by law to submit his budget in the first week of every year but Obama doesn’t feel the statute matters.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan was not amused when he said,

“This will mark the third time in four years the president has missed his statutory requirement to present a budget on time, while trillion-dollar budget deficits continue to mount. As the president announces another missed deadline, tomorrow marks the 1,000th day Senate Democrats have gone without any budget at all. We deserve better than a president unwilling to meet his legal and moral obligation to tackle our nation’s most pressing challenges. We deserve better than the President’s path to debt, doubt and decline”

Since the Democrats have taken over the Senate they have refused to even approve a blueprint for a budget. They are afraid that a budget will make them appear as if they are not concerned with the country’s precarious financial situation. By not submitting a budget it means they have to consistently pass stop gap funding measures for a month or two at a time or risk the government being shut down.

The Obama administration is pointing out that his budget will meet one of his campaign promises. It will not be printed for members of congress or the media but will be available free online. Anyone wishing to print it will have to purchase a copy from the US Government Printing Office.
