‘Harry Potter’ Actor Would Love A Spin-Off

Matthew Lewis said that he would love to do a Harry Potter spin-off. The question is whether J.K. Rowling is interested in writing a series of books around his character.

Lewis is well-known for his role in the movies based on the Harry Potter series. He played the bumbling Neville Longbottom, who just happened to share a birthday month with the main character. It was only towards the end of the series that fans found out more about Neville’s character and how he could have almost been the “Boy Who Lived.”

RadioTimes learned that Lewis is certainly up for a spin-off on Harry Potter, with his character being the main focus. He told the publication that he would like to say he would consider it, but that he would probably jump at the chance.

“If it came to it that I was offered that sort of deal – I want to say I’d consider it – but I’d probably jump at the chance, absolutely!”

Rowling is currently working on a spin-off of her beloved book series. Her current three screenplays are based on her textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, where she follows Newt Scamander. The three-part series will be set 70 or so year before the Harry Potter series, but may feature characters like Albus Dumbledore.

It is unlikely that she has another spin-off idea as of yet. However, it is clear that she cannot let the world go, and may come up with something in the future. The British author continually pens articles and short stories for her Potter website, Pottermore, with some stories set in the future.

Right now, Lewis is not itching to do a spin-off series, but he would consider the idea. He is currently on TV screens around the UK with Bluestone 42, a comedy set in Afghanistan airing on BBC3.

Matthew regularly jokes about his time on set. According to NME, he says one of the worst things about the eight-movie franchise was watching himself back on the screen. It was a nightmare at first, but now he does not fear his own performance. He does admit that he misses the Harry Potter set, though. When speaking to Emma Watson, he realized that there were certain aspects that he wishes could have continued. Acting throughout the movies was “amazing.”

“I saw Emma Watson the other day and we were chatting about Potter, and I realised as much as I miss certain aspects of it, since I finished it I’ve just had such an amazing time.”

However, he only has positive things to say about his current show. He is very much involved with the project and is proud of it. It has been a lot of fun being in the series, and says that the fun is “so much more than I’ve ever had before as an actor.” However, a Harry Potter spin-off centering around Neville is definitely something Lewis would consider.
