Samsung Galaxy S6 Potential Flaw: Flagship Phone’s Rumored Battery Size Smaller Than Galaxy S5

Everything has been known about the Samsung Galaxy S6 except for its battery life. According to a Korean publication named Itcle, Samsung is giving the Galaxy S6 a 2600 mAh capacity battery. That means it will be 200 mAh smaller than the 2800 mAh battery that’s inside the Galaxy S5, according to Forbes.

This rumor follows months of news that the Galaxy S6 battery would be even smaller at 2550 mAh. Design is the biggest reason why Samsung wanted to fit a smaller battery into its Galaxy S6 phone. The new phone is rumored to have a radical design that’s different from the Galaxy S5. It will also have an HTC and iPhone 6-aping aluminum unibody chassis, as the tech manufacturer wants to impress consumers with its new and improved style.

The leaked schematics have shown that the Galaxy S6 will be 7.19mm or 0.28-inches thick. That’s significant reduction from the S5, which measures at 0.81mm or 0.32-inches. That means there will be less physical space for the battery in the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone.

Samsung is also planning to use its new Exynos 7 Octa chipset in the S5. Since it’s made on a 14nm process, it should be more battery-friendly, according to GSM Arena. If Samsung managers to make the Galaxy S6 with a 2600 mAh battery last as long as the Galaxy S5 with a 2800 mAh battery, users will wonder why the Korean company thought that this new battery size would be enough for the phone.

BGR says not to freak out about the Galaxy S6’s battery size just yet. The article says that the battery could offer similar or better battery life. The Galaxy S6 is supposed to have a more efficient processor than the Galaxy S5. It’s also supposed to be even thinner with a high-resolution 2K display. That alone may be enough for users to upgrade their smartphones.

According to a recent Inquisitr report, Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S6 on March 1 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The site also reported that Samsung would release the Galaxy S6 around the end of the 2015’s first quarter. Samsung employees aren’t allowed to schedule vacation time between March 22 and March 30, leading users to believe that the Galaxy S5 will launch on either March 22 or the days following it.

Other specs for the Samsung Galaxy S6 include a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED touchscreen, and 3GB of RAM. It will also have a camera with a 16 MP unit with OIS, and not the 20 MP that’s been rumored for some time. Are you looking forward to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6?
