‘NCIS’ Spoilers: Gibbs Feels Responsible, And His Conflict With Sergei ‘Comes To A Head’

It’s time for the showdown that everyone knows has been coming in NCIS Season 12. Sergei may have recently gotten away from Gibbs, but that’s not likely going to happen again the next time the two meet.

In the 11th episode of NCIS Season 12, “Check,” the past came back to haunt Gibbs, as Sergei recreated Mike Franks, Jenny, and Kate’s deaths. When it came time for someone to die like Kate, Diane was the victim, as Sergei lured both her and Gibbs to a roof top and killed her.

“Only the beginning, my friend,” Sergei had promised after taking the shot.

The team had managed to track down Sergei, and Gibbs took it upon himself to go after him alone, but while he only briefly had Sergei by the throat before he was knocked out from behind. When he came to, Sergei was gone.

In the following NCIS episode, “The Enemy Within,” Fornell had taken a leave of absence from work, but he was focused on what the loss meant for Emily, which promised that his time for grieving would be coming. He made Gibbs promise that when he found Sergei he could have a piece of him, and it looks like that time is coming.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the NCIS episode “Cabin Fever” is going to feature great Gibbs and Fornell moments. Executive producer Gary Glasberg told TVGuide.com that Gibbs is feeling responsible for Diane’s death.

“At the end of the day, Gibbs feels a certain responsibility for what happened. Whether that’s accurate or not, he’s carrying that around with him, and Fornell is carrying that around with him. … There are really some brilliant moments between Gibbs and Fornell. I couldn’t be happier with the performances that they gave. It’s a touching, really strong episode.”

The EP also teased that the conflict that has been brewing between Gibbs and Sergei “comes to a head” in this episode.

“It’s kind of been percolating under the surface for Gibbs, and clearly his wheels are turning and he’s brooding. He’s thinking and he’s plotting and he’s planning. … As we all know, Gibbs isn’t one to just sit back and let things happen.”

Watch the NCIS Season 12 Episode 15 promo for “Cabin Fever” below. As you can see, Fornell is not doing well following Diane’s death. As stated above, in “The Enemy Within,” he had been focused on how his daughter was handling her mother’s death, but it looks like he’s going to have to confront his own grief head-on here. Gibbs brings him to the cabin for an intervention, and Fornell is going to take a swing at him, but they have more important things to worry about because it looks like Sergei has found them.

Looking ahead to what else to expect this season, TVLine reported that the February 24 episode, “Blast from the Past,” sees a murder victim living under an alias that had been created 20 years ago – for one of Gibbs’ undercover cases. Also, Margo Harshman (Delilah) and Robert Wagner (DiNozzo Sr.) will both be back. Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, and Emily Wickersham have all tweeted out photos from the set of Wagner’s return.

Plus, Glasberg has teased what to expect in the season finale, and it sounds like one fans won’t want to miss.

“I think I’m going to try and rattle people a little bit.”

NCIS Season 12 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
